Michael Schaming Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 26, 2009.
SCHAMING MICHAEL E.
Michael E. Schaming, 61, of Port Richey, FL, passed away on Monday, March 2, 2009 at his residence. He was born in Pittsburgh, PA. on September 29, 1947 to Esther Schaming, Palm Harbor, FL and the late Edward Schaming. He is survived by his wife Dorothy, currently residing in Cranberry Township; son Michael Jr. (wife Heather), Plum Boro; daughter Dawn (Isaac) Thompkins, Aliquippa; grandchildren, Megan, Jakob, Alicia and Isaac; stepchildren Allan and Kimberly Gatto, Butler; sister, Susan, Dominica, Windward Islands; brothers John, Port Richey, Fl. and Edward, Tarpon Springs, Fl. After 34 years with Bell Telephone, AT & T and Lucent Technologies he retired in 1998 as a National Accounts Service Manager. Mike served in Vietnam with the 9th Infantry Division, assigned to the Mobile Riverine Force, a specialized unit that joined forces with the U.S. Navy to protect the jungles, waterways, and canals in the Mekong Delta. He served with Bravo Company 3rd of the 60th, a very loyal and special group of men. Mike attended the reunions and we all saw the special bond that they had then and that bond continues today. Mike was proud of his Vietnam service and so very proud of the men he served with. Mike was awarded the Bronze Star for Heroism, Combat Infantryman's Badge, 2 Air Medals (Helicopter Assaults Missions) Presidential Unit Citation, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry w/Palm, Vietnam Civil Actions, and the Cold War Medal. There will be a Memorial for family and friends on March 30, 2009 at 11:00AM, College Hill United Methodist Church, 3240 5th Ave, Beaver Falls, PA 15010, (724) 843-4190. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Vietnam Veterans of America, Beaver County Chapter 862, P. O. Box 483, Beaver, Pa. 15009. Local arrangements by WATERS FUNERAL HOME, Clairton, PA.

I am Mike's daughter....Dawn, he and I were not really on speaking terms when he passed away, In any event the past 6 months have been extremely HARD for me BECAUSE we were not speaking at the time of his death. I have been thru all the woulda, coulda, shoulda's I dont know HOW MANY times since his passing but, all the what if's will not bring him back and it truely saddens me. I wish to God that I could have just ONE more day, ONE more hour, ONE more minute..but our tomorrows are not promised and the memories that I do have do not make me sad or regretful..they make me smile..everytime Michael (my brother) and I recall a "memory" I smile and that is all I have to take with me now. But it is plenty and I will see you again one day and then we WILL catch up I am MOST certain of that! I love you Dad and I will CHERISH ALL of my memories of you and with you FOREVER!

To Mike's family,
I had the plesure of working with Mike at ATT. He was both a total professional and a wonderful and kind human being. His "can do/will do" attitude was complimented by his great sense of humor.
I have such great memories of him. My deepest sympathy and prayers go to his family.

To Mike's family I send my deepest and most heartfelt condolences.

I served with Mike in Vietnam and remember his easy and mischievous smile and also his seriousness of purpose. My clearest mental picture of Mike is him walking through the paddies with his M-60 resting on his shoulder. He was a great comrade-in-arms and I will truly never forget him. It is likely that many of us are alive today because of his service to our country and to his efforts to protect the men in our unit. I am proud of Mike and of the life that he led, and count it a privilege to have known him. Peace, Mike -- I will see you again.
