Michael carries a special light that he freely shared will everyone he encountered. I was lucky enough to meet him, enjoy his humor, his love of family, and the spark in his eyes.
I know him more through visits with Ann and the stories Joan tells me of her older brother. It is wonderful to witness so much love and respect.
My heart is with you all at this very difficult time.
Much love,
Keri

Dearest Ann, Anthony, Michelle and Maria
Our deepest sympathy is with you all. We feel this loss as though we have lost the other part of Roy.
Michael, Carl, Phillip and Roy were (and still are) like brothers since high school days. In particular Michael, as Roy would say his partner in crime from Technical School onward. In Edmonton their friendship grew stronger. They partied, fixed cars, drank and played cars together. But most importantly were each others confidants, giving each other advice about almost everything – business, finances, limes and even marriages.
Travelling to Canada during the Summer vacation with the family was always sure, as Roy considered Michael's home in Alberta, his second home, we all did.
I have known Michael for the greater part of my life, and the kids have known him for the entire lives…they recall all the fond memories of summer vacations in Edmonton, doing the Alberta tour in the blue van and later on the RV…with Michelle and Damien fighting or Michelle and Tammy playing girly games and dress up. Countless bar-b-que limes in the backyard at the old house and not to mention Michael's visits to Trinidad, where a Mayaro lime and a fishing lime with their other partner Bing Gunness was a must.
He was not just a best friend to Roy, he was family to all of us.
He will be missed dearly, but our family takes comfort in knowing that now Roy and Michael must be greeting each other and raising a glass to a friendship reunited.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.
Love always,
Merle, Damien and Tammy Bassant

My thoughts are with Michael's loving family and close friends during this sad time. Please accept my sincere condolences for your loss. I met Michael at a house party many years ago and will always remember his humor. He was playfully trying to ‘shake' a dish towel into the very narrow space between the oven door and the handle. It was a hilarious performance and he had everyone laughing so hard! I hope you find peace and love in the memories you cherish for they are the bright stars in the dark night of sorrow.

With heartfelt sympathy,
