Michael Stack Obituary
August 29, 1945 – July 12, 2025
Michael John Stack, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 12, 2025, in Chester, Maryland. He was 79 years old.
Born on August 29, 1945, in New York City, Michael was the son of the late William "Bumpy" Stack and Blanche "Mimi" Stack. He grew up with a deep love of the water, which began during his formative years as a lifeguard at Jones Beach, NY and leading the Plainview HS swim team to several championships.
Michael attended the University of Maryland on a swimming scholarship, and was named an All American swimmer before embarking on a distinguished career leading organizations. He served as the CEO of ASIS International for 22 years, growing it from a national association to a global education association organization which helped shape the landscape of industrial security today. Despite his demanding career, he made time to be president of the Gonzaga College High School, DC crew boosters, a boy scout leader, an usher at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church VA, and led community outreach for multiple churches he attended over the years.
Above all, Michael cherished his family. He was the devoted husband of Judy "Mimi" Stack, with whom he shared a lifetime of love, laughter, and worldwide adventures. Together, they explored the globe, collecting memories and stories that Michael delighted in retelling to family and friends. He passed on that passion for travelling to his children, ensuring they too saw and experienced the world.
Michael was a proud and loving father to Allison Wilson (married to Sean Wilson), and Michael Patrick Stack (married to Janie Stack). He found immense joy in being "Papa" to his five grandchildren: McKenna, Charlotte, Michael John, William and Kathryn. His family was his pride and joy, and he relished every moment spent with them.
He is also survived by his beloved siblings: Patricia Scripps (married to Jimmy Scripps), and Christopher Stack (married to Judi Christiano), who shared in the many chapters of his rich life.
Michael will be remembered for his warmth, wisdom, humor, and storytelling.
A mass of resurrection will be held on Saturday, July 19, at 11 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Alexandria, Virginia.
A traditional Irish wake will be held at Daniel O'Connell's in Old Town, Alexandria on Friday, July 18 from 4 to 6 p.m. to celebrate his life.
All who knew him and their families are invited and welcome to come to both events to celebrate the life of this great man.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Michael's name to The United States Lifesaving Association or simply take time to travel somewhere new—just as he would have encouraged you to do.
