Michael Stewart Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 28, 2025.

Michael Francis Stewart, a lifelong resident of Needham, passed away due to complications from a prolonged illness on Thursday, August 7, 2025. Mike was born at the Wright-Patterson Air Force base in Ohio on March 17,1955, the first of five sons born to John Harry and Harriet (Misterly) Stewart.

Mike grew up in Needham, attending Mitchell Elementary School and then Newman Middle School. After Newman, he graduated from Keefe Vocational School in Framingham, where he concentrated in Auto mechanics. He was a long term independent resident of the Linden Street apartments, operated by the Needham Housing Authority.

Mike held several positions working in various companies including a Needham rug company and Econocorp, a secondary packaging company. He thrived in his position at Econocorp with a generous and understanding management team who treated him like family.

At a young age, Mike learned how to ski, sail, fish and bike ride. His favorite weekends were spent doing these activities with his brothers including trips to the family home in Vermont to ski at Mad River Glen and trailering his boat to Lake Wequaquet to catch fish. Mike was very close to his Dad and shared the love of building with his hands. He enjoyed helping his father restore cars, airplanes, and boats as well as building gliders and as a result, Mike became an avid model builder. He was very fond of the many models he assembled of airplanes and Peterbilt trucks which he proudly showcased in his home.

Mike will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him. He was a kind and happy soul who always had a smile on his face. The family would like to thank Lifeworks in Westwood for their attention and devotion to Mike over the past 30 years. Particularly to Kay Lee, Marie, Tasha and most recently Nicole who Mike absolutely adored.

Mike was predeceased by his father Jack and his brother Andrew. Mike will be missed greatly by his mother Harriet, and brothers: John (Suzanne), Rick (Kris), Dan (Gina) and sister-in-law Doreen as well as nieces, nephews and one great nephew and one great niece, Cam and son Jude, Sydney, Ashley (Matt), Mallory, Austin (Michaela) and daughter Whitney, Malcolm, and Griffin.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 on May 16th, 2026 at St Peter's Episcopal Church in Osterville with a private burial following. All are welcome to a Celebration of Life for Mike afterwards at 79 Conners Road, Centerville.

Memorials in Mike's name can be made to the American Heart Association, Joslin Diabetes Center, or Lifeworks of Westwood, an affiliated chapter of The Arc, and an organization that provides programs to support people of all abilities.
