Michael Thompson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 16, 2024.
Hey there! Strap in for the whimsical send-off of the one and only Mike Thompson-a master of mischief who departed for the great reading room in the sky on April 8, 2024. His journey commenced back on February 23, 1954, and let's say he left no page unturned.

From the down-home charm of North Carolina to the peaks of West Virginia, from the buzz of Pittsburgh to the coast of California, to the naval yard of Philadelphia, the Brickyard of Indianapolis, and settling in sweet tea serenity of Rockhill, South Carolina, Mike navigated the chapters of life with a well-thumbed book always in tow. His dry wit earned him a black belt in banter, making him the go-to guy for a joke that could make even a statue smirk.

Sure, Mike answered the call of duty with the Marines, but his true mission was to spread chuckles far and wide-be it with a sly comment or a surprise pun that would sneak up on you like a silent but friendly comedian ninja.

His "the boys"-grandsons Dane and Tyler -were his sequel, the next generation plot twist he reveled in, and boy, could he talk your ear off about their latest capers. Just like one of his beloved classic cars, their adventures kept his joy riding at full throttle.

As for what's left behind, his sister Jeanie, daughter Dana, son-in-law Chris, and those mischievous grand-teens are all part of Mike's legacy: a series of anecdotes and life lessons wrapped up with a hearty laugh that echoes through time.

So, here's the punchline: Mike's taken his final curtain call to a standing ovation. Let's keep his memory alive with stories that amuse and remind us all to enjoy the ride-or as Mike would say, "Life's a journey-make sure you've got snacks and good tunes."

Toodle-oo and chuckles to you, Mike. May you find endless libraries and car shows in the heavens, and may your laughter be a beacon for us all.

Michael and I were best friends. I miss him every day. We used to talk at least once a week. Every time I think to call him I remember he is gone. I miss him so much.

Michael and I were friends for 48 years. He made me laugh so much, if I was upset or feeling down I would talk to Mike and right away he would have me feeling better.

He was a good man and a great father and grandfather! I am very grateful to have had him as a friend.

So many memories,so many stories I guess one of my favorite memories was when me and Michael went for a walk in a creek in Clifton Heights It was so hot that day and the water was wonderful We must have walked a mile mostly carrying the kids .They were probably three or four.We swam ,we spit water at each other ,we came to a opening and a police man was there He points at a big sign that says No swimming in creek ,water is contaminated. Well we were giving a stern warning and laughed all the way home It was over forty five years ago and I can still remember Michael laughing ,He did have the best laugh didn´t he and except for a case of extreme paranoia We were fine

This man will be so missed. I will especially miss our phone calls. We would talk for hours, sometimes falling asleep on the phone. Michael was very entertaining. He had a great memory, he could remember dates of all the events he talked about. He was an amazing man and he will be greatly missed. I will still be talking to you and I know you will hear me I just wont be able to hear you. Love you Michael!
