In Loving Memory of Michael James Tierney

November 12, 1937 - March 22, 2025

Mike Tierney, a man of steadfast love, quiet strength, and unwavering devotion, was born on November 12, 1937, in Detroit, Michigan. On March 22, 2025, in Westworth Village, Texas, he peacefully reunited with his beloved wife, Joan, just in time for a round of golf together in Heaven for her birthday, on March 23rd.

Mike shared an incredible 66-year love story with his wife, Joan Tierney, who preceded him in death. Their bond was unbreakable, and though he cherished every moment with his family on Earth, he was ready to be by her side once more.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, John and Margaret Tierney, his brother, John Tierney, and his sister, Ann Wilson.

Mike is survived by his two devoted sons, David Tierney (husband to Julianna Tierney) and Mark Tierney. His love and wisdom continue through his cherished grandchildren, Brandon Tierney (husband to Erica Tierney) and Katelyn Marsh (wife to Thomas Marsh), and his adored great-grandchildren, Hayden Tierney and Kennedy Tierney.

Mike dedicated 33 years of his career as an engineer at Lockheed Martin, a role that brought him and his family to Mansfield, Texas. Before that, he worked at the Chrysler Corporation Missile Division. His meticulous nature and problem-solving skills made him a respected and invaluable part of his field.

Beyond his career, Mike was a man of faith, an active member and volunteer at First Methodist Mansfield, and a passionate golfer, enjoying countless rounds as a member of the Men's Golf Association at Walnut Creek. Golf wasn't just a pastime-it was a way he connected with friends and family, sharing laughter, competition, and camaraderie.

Travel was another passion, though he did it his own way-by car. After surviving a near-fatal plane crash, Mike made a promise to God never to fly again, a vow he honored for the rest of his life. He became a master trip planner, charting routes with precision long before GPS and smartphones existed. Every mile, every stop-planned to perfection. His road trips with Joan and friends were legendary, filled with adventure, laughter, and carefully selected roadside diners.

While he enjoyed watching movies, it was A Christmas Story that held a special place in his heart - a tradition that has since become a family favorite, watched on repeat every Christmas. Beyond movies, he created countless memories with his grandchildren, whether hitting golf balls across the pond in the backyard, making trips to the mall, or playing endless games of Monopoly and chess. He was the one who first taught them how to play chess, a skill passed down with lots of patience and laughter.

In his final year, he moved to The Westmore, where he was the most visited resident, a testament to the love his family had for him. Dave rarely missed a day, sometimes visiting twice, and Juli's weekly visits were always a highlight. Mark would sit with him and watch TV, sharing quiet moments together. Brandon, Erica, and the kids brought joy to his days, and Thomas and Katelyn made sure their Wine Happy Hours never ran dry. In one of their cherished moments when a band was playing at The Westmore, he surprised everyone by singing along to a song and reminiscing with a big smile on his face, "Joan and I used to dance to this."

Mike left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew him. His kindness, humor, and steady presence made him the rock of his family. Joan always loved to say that her mother insisted, "Mike was too good for her," but in truth, they were a perfect match-soulmates now reunited.

A memorial service to honor Mike's life will be held at First Methodist Mansfield (777 N. Walnut Creek Drive, Mansfield, TX 76063) at 11:00 AM on April 8, 2025.

As we celebrate his life, we find comfort in knowing that he is once again with Joan, his partner in all things. Mike, you are deeply loved, dearly missed, and your memory will forever guide us. Rest in peace, and may your journey continue on roads paved with love and endless rounds of golf.

Sad to hear that Mike had passed away. He and Joan were a great couple. We enjoyed their company on the golf course during our years at WCCC.
