I thought of Michael yesterday and the tears came. It's been around 40 years since I would go to Private Lines and he would make me feel and look beautiful. I remember his kind heart. He cared about my life and my sorrow when my husband left me. What moves me most is to recall how he always talked about his daughter Simone with such pride and adoration. O how he loved her!
When I heard the shocking news that Michael had died, all I could think of was how terrible his grief must have been to have to say goodbye to her, and how terrible her grief must have been to have to say goodbye to him. Makes me cry now just typing this.
I am so, so sorry, Simone.
Your Dad was full of light and love.
I pray you are shining today, like father like daughter.

I was so sad to hear of Michael´s passing 10 years after the fact. Michael cut my hair many, many times in the mid 70´s when he was just starting out. He always took me out of the ordinary which was so fun. I also remember many long conversations about everything and nothing. You were an important part of my 20´s.

I just saw that Michael had passed away, years after it happened. So sorry to hear. I just posted a video of the work that Michael and team were creating at Private Lines in 1991. It's an older, grainy video at this point, but a small homage to his philosophy and impact. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JDhKu9x9Cjs

Michael, words escape me. I just buried my partner, Hank, and decided to look up old friends and of course you were one of them. We go way back 1976/1977 you were just starting out in your career and such enthusiasm and pride you had in your passion for design . At that time you were also taking Karate lessons and you were equally as passionate. The only time I can remember when you weren't that enthusiastic was when I was trying to teach you and your friend how to play Bridge however you were a good sport. We always ran into each other whether in Yorkville, Bloor St. West , on the Subway or Runnymede bus. I knew you were going through a rough situation but I never asked, maybe I should have, you always talked about new ideas, and never let me in about your sorrow. Last time I saw you was about 8 years ago I didn't say anything to because you looked so distraught. Michael, I hope you have found peace. I will always remember you and hold a special place in my heart for you. God bless! Love always, Debbie.

Michael took me from being dark-haired curly permed plain Jane to a trendy sleek-tressed red-head. Michael had a great vision and brought the best out in all of his clients - celebrities, models and people like me - he made us all feel like divas.

My deepest condolences to his family.

I consider myself lucky when I think of all the good years I had with Mike as his wife and when we were blessed with our beautiful daughter, Simone. If anyone knew him, they knew how much he loved her. I will cherish those memories forever and know he's in a happy and peaceful place now. The one good thing his death did was to bring our families together once again. It was a wonderful day remembering and loving each other. Thanks to Bob and Bonnie for opening their hearts and their home to all Mike's friends, family and colleagues. Thanks to all the lovely people who took the time to pay their respects and so unexpected when Pirrette organized a special memorial in Yorkville where Mike spent a good part of his life. It will stay with Simone forever. We really appreciate it and thanks to you all. Be at peace Mike. Lisa

I remember when I got my first haircut from Michael; he was on Bloor St. I had my hair in a pony tail, and he told me I couldnt wear my hair long. He cut it like a guys, and I have kept it that way since.
I will always remember your blonde hair, and blue eyes.
Rest in peace, Michael.
Love Aunty June Townes.

Michael, my brother-in-law. Your accomplishments in life were many. But in fear that someone might miss it, your accomplishments in death are also many and arguably more significant. True your absence leaves a great gaping hole in all of our lives, in your industry, and in your own family, but your passing has also filled in many holes as well. In death you have another success to your credit Michael, for in your passing you have succeeded in reconnecting many lives that the years and the trauma of life have separated. You have given your sister Bonnie, your father, your nieces and nephew, and myself the opportunity once again to wrap our arms around your daughter, our beautiful niece Simone whom we have missed so much over these past years. And her mother Lisa's face brought back so many good memories. Yesterday at your memorial they were instantly grafted back into our family. In your absence Mike we will love them for you until the end. You have also rebuilt the bridge that was broken between us and all the great friends and your co-workers from the industry. What a great group of people and how their words and their careers honour your influence and memory. I pray that you were watching yesterday Mike. We all noticed the singular beam of sunshine that poured through the little upper window to bathe it's warm light on your framed face. Did you notice from above a room full of people that were completely caught up in the love of your memory? I believe you did. In all the centuries of history that have passed I am so glad that our lives crossed paths for the years that they did.
Love always and forever, your Bonnie and Bob

Michael, you couldn't even imagine how much I will miss you. Not a few weeks would go by in the last 8 years that I've known you without somehow being in contact with you. You are a true genius and your breathtaking hairstyles saw me through my major milestones such as graduations and weddings. I feel so privilidged to have known the most fabulous person who was so achingly sensitive and empathic. I will so miss our long discussions comparing artistry between our two worlds of hair and dance.
I only wish you knew how much I loved you and how your huge spirit and love of people lifted me up and carried me through the past 8 years.
May peace, love and light follow you on your journey,

you'll always be in my heart,
Love,
Donna

Dad, when i look back at our times together i will smile for as long as i live. I have great memories of you and i watching the Little Mermaid 100 times together, having fun at the beach with Mere and Pere, you carrying me on your shoulders everywhere we went, and playing with my cousins and you at aunt Bonnie's and Uncle Bob's. Also, the countless hours i spent at your salon waiting for you to be finished so we could go home at watch Little Mermaid yet again! You were such an amazing talent dad. You were a great person to have in my life when i was young - you always knew how to make me laugh, and make me feel like i was special and loved. I will forever embrace the good moments in your life. We all have our bad moments in life, but your good ones will be always be remembered and talked about. I love you dad, and i hope you're finally at peace.

Also a big thanks to Pierrette who put together a lovely memorial dinner, i also can't thank you and everyone who came enough.

Back in the early 90's, i was a client of Michael's at Private Lines and was impressed by his energy and enthusiasm for his craft, his staff and each and every person who sat in his chair. He had a great sense of humour with a wide smile and sparkling eyes. I remember he spoke of such pride about his daughter. I moved to Montreal for many years and lost touch with his career but his obituary lists his many accomplishments. I was happy to read that. Michael, you've brought your own special kind of sunshine to another place..............
