Michael Wajda

Michael John Wajda, 79, passed away unexpectedly on February 15, 2025, in Towson, Maryland, following a brief illness. Michael was surrounded by his loving family, and comfort as he was called to Heaven.

Born on February 10, 1946, in Chicopee, Massachusetts, Michael was the eldest son of Frances and Mieczyslaw Wajda. As the son of a Naval Officer, he and his brother David attended too many elementary schools to count before their family settled at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. The Wajda family settled in Rye, New Hampshire, just in time for Michael to invite Kathryn Reardon to the Junior Prom in 1962.

Michael pursued higher education with dedication, earning a Bachelor of Science from the University of New Hampshire in Durham and later a Juris Doctor from the University of Baltimore. His career in Public Health reflected his commitment to science and service. Beginning as a bench scientist at Lawrence General Hospital, he later served as the Assistant Director of the Laboratory Program for the State of Maryland until his retirement.

A man of insatiable curiosity and integrity, Michael mastered countless skills throughout his life. Whether renovating the historic home in Kingston, NH late into the night, woodworking, fishing, anything with computers-Michael put his photographic memory to good use.

Together with Kathryn, an exceptional life was hewn from hard work, and lots of love. They raised their children, Matthew and Kristine, while working full time, renovating their farmhouse, running their small farm. As a family, many adventures were had; national parks on cross-country road trips, skiing in Canada, camping in Myrtle Beach. Even after retirement, Michael and Katherine's travels continued-to the Holy Land, Europe, Australia, and China.

A devoted member of St. Francis Episcopal Parish, Michael was steadfast in his faith and unwavering in his support when Kathryn received The Calling.

He is survived by his wife Kathryn Wajda (née Reardon); son Matthew Wajda (Emily); daughter Kristine Wajda; brother David Matthew Wajda (Marilyn); niece Nadia Wajda; nephew Evan Wajda; grand niece Victoria Wajda-LaRoche; grandson John Thomas MacInnis; and two cherished godchildren. He was predeceased by his parents Frances and Mieczyslaw Wajda; his in-laws W. Frank and Bertha Reardon; many extended family members.

A Funeral Mass will be held on March 29, 2025, at 2:00 PM at St. Francis Episcopal Parish, 2216 Pot Spring Road in Lutherville, Maryland.

Refreshments, stories of joy, and love will be shared immediately following the service in the Narthex and Common Room.
