MICHAEL RAY WESTHUES Michael R. Westhues, 58, Raytown, MO, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2013, at Research Hospital surrounded by his family. Mike battled his cancer heroically, as he did every challenge in his life. Funeral Mass will be 10:00am Wednesday, May 29, 2013, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 7009 Blue Ridge Blvd, KCMO 64133. Interment at Mount Olivet Cemetery. Family will receive friends Tuesday, May 28, 6-8pm, at the church. Mike was born on November 2, 1954, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Frederic and Jacqueline Westhues. Mike was a lifelong area resident and graduated from Raytown South High School. After high school, he graduated from a four year electrical program. Mike rarely sat still; he was full of life and energy. His drive and vision led to the formation of Westhues Electric and he was very proud of the family owned business' continued success. Mike never met a stranger; he adapted quite easily to any situation. He made many friends while working on the Blue Anchor Bay Condo project at the Lake of the Ozarks and part of his spirit will remain there. His greatest joy was being home, puttering in the barn, working on his cars and spending time with family, friends and neighbors. Mike had an extraordinary mechanical ability and could find a solution to any problem. His interests were diverse, from piloting his plane to restoring classic cars. Mike was devoted to his wife of 37 years, Vickie, and very proud of their adult children, James and Crystal. His grandkids, Hayden and Alainna were the lights of his life. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and several beloved aunts and uncles. He leaves his wife, Vickie; children and their spouses: James and Tonya Westhues, and Crystal and Kevin Schmitt; and grandchildren, Hayden and Alainna Westhues. He was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Mike was loved so very much by so many. Mike is also survived by his siblings and their spouses: Greg and Sherry Westhues, Gary and Laura Westhues, Mark and Mary Ann Westhues, Keith and Frances Westhues, Karen and Bob Prichard, all of Lee's Summit, MO, and many nephews, nieces, family and friends who loved him dearly. He left us too soon and his loss will be forever felt. Memorial tributes may be directed to American Cancer Society.
