Michael William Rodee Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 7, 2025.
Michael William Rodee, age 83 of Wauwatosa, WI, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2025 after battling a rare form of cancer called MDS. He was born in Milwaukee in 1942 to Charles and Elinor Rodee. They moved to Delafield, WI in 1949. Mike graduated from Oconomowoc High School in 1960. He was a wrestler, gymnast and track star. He received an undergraduate degree from UW Lacrosse, followed by 4 years in the Navy on the USS Edward McDonnell. He taught physical education for Milwaukee Public Schools for 28 years. He was a well-known (some say legendary) scow sailor on Lake Nagawicka and won many ILYA races & regattas in Wisconsin. He was a member of the Wisconsin Athletic Club for 42 years and played racquetball competitively. He enjoyed metal detecting. He enjoyed finding lost items and getting them back to their rightful owners. More than anything else, he loved a good cup of coffee, a quiet place to drink it and read the paper. In his later years he spent half of the year in Clearwater Beach, FL metal detecting and connecting with friends. He was a kind, gentle person that lived a quiet simple life. He will be missed and is survived by his brother John Rodee(Kristine Hinrichs),(niece Katie Matteson and nephew Jack Rodee) and his sister Margaret McManus (nephew Steve McManus and nephew Mark McManus). A memorial will be held at a later date. Please see the guest book on legacy.com for details.

Mike Rodee,

Thank you for being a long time friend to our family! Many great memories of our times sailing on Lake Nagawicka. Especially for you and Dad.

Always enjoyed our visits in later years as well: Panera, McDonald's, Kopp's, UP lakes to Florida beaches, wherever.... You were always a gracious host, and a valued guest.

You are missed! Your kindness, spirit, and thoughtfulness will never be forgotten.

A good life lived... Glad to have been part of it.

Thank you! Love you, Mike!

We got the pleasure to know Mike over the last 3 and a half years living in the unit below him. Mike truly loved the simple things in life like his morning Panera coffee, sudoku and crossword puzzles, and feeding the birds in our driveway. He was always a pleasure to be around and we will miss seeing having him around.

Mike was one of the first people we met in 1994 at the NLYC. he got Mary Kay to sale his E boat and eventually sold the boat to her. She sailed it for years. He had lots of sailing stories. We used to use our metal detectors to go around old areas. near the NLYC shore he found an 1892 silver quarter. On the property on Milwaukee Street- the old Graham Garner house, he found a beautiful gold broach buried about 8 inches down. it had multi colors stones placed in a lily pattern. he gave it to the owners of the home. Mike was always good for a story whether metal detecting in Florida or past sailing stories. he was an old soul for sure. I will miss him and am very sorry to hear of his passing- chuck hajinian
