Michael Wittstruck Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 16, 2023.
Mike Wittstruck 56, of Lincoln, Nebraska died April 11, 2023 after a short battle with a rare and aggressive form of Peripheral T-Cell lymphoma. Born October 13, 1966 in Olathe, Kansas to Carol and Edward (Junior) Wittstruck.

While attending Lincoln High School Mike participated in track and cross county, graduating from LHS in 1985. Mike served in the US Army from 1986 - 1992. He went to boot camp at Fort Dix, NJ, and artillery training at Fort Sill, OK. Later stationed at Fort Campbell, KY, then overseas in the Netherlands, Germany, and Turkey. Starting as a cannon crew member, he became one of the armorers for his unit. Finally serving as an assistant to a Command Sergeant Major.

After receiving an Honorable Discharge from the Army Mike returned to Lincoln where he was employed as an apprentice electrician, working at the Lancaster Events Center for the last four years.

Mike (aka "Woody") loved creating original music on his electronic keyboards. He performed with a couple of local bands and loved going to concerts. Favorite bands included Depeche Mode, U2, The Cars, Tears For Fears, and New Order.

Trivia, escape rooms, and crossword puzzles were some of Mike's favorites. Solving Rubik's Cube was a breeze. Never known to turn down a friendly, competitive game of darts or billiards. Mike was his own man. Smart, quick-witted, opinionated, hard-working. Those who knew him well... well they knew him and loved him.

Mike is survived by his mother and stepfather, Doug & Carol Prange, brothers Russ and Rick Wittstruck, Rick's wife Nat, stepmother Valerie Wittstruck and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Preceded in death by his father and Mike's four-legged furry friend and companion Davis the cat.

Service will be held at 1:30 PM on April 22, 2023, at Grace Lutheran Church in Walton, Nebraska, officiated by Vicar Kim Bate. Following the service around 3:00 PM, a gathering will be held at Brewsky's (Mike's favorite watering hole) on 70th & Van Dorn Street in Lincoln for anyone who wishes to attend.

Memorials may be sent to "Cause for Paws", a local non-profit organization whose proceeds help support local and Nebraska animal charities and rescue organizations.

Live streaming will be available for those not able to attend the service.

Cremation has been chosen. Interment will be held at a later date.

A heartfelt sadness to lose an old friend. Mike and I ran track and cross country together at LHS. He was always a competitor whether playing a game of pool or disc golf. Too many good-times to mention.
My condolences to his family and everyone who knew Mike.
