Michael Wood Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 3, 2024.
Michael Lee "Mike" Wood, 78, passed away on July 3, 2024, in Clinton, SC. Born on June 11, 1946, in Greenville, SC, he was a son to the late Charles and Grace (Ellison) Wood.

Mike graduated from Carolina High School and later earned an Associate's degree in Criminal Justice from Greenville Technical College. He dedicated many years of service to law enforcement, beginning his career as a SC Game Warden, followed by roles at the Mauldin Police Department and SC Highway Patrol.

A proud member of the SC National Guard, Mike served with distinction and embraced the camaraderie and discipline of military life. His commitment to service was evident both in and out of uniform.

Beyond his professional and military life, Mike was an active Mason and Shriner. He had a passion for restoring antique cars and engines, a hobby that allowed him to connect with fellow enthusiasts and preserve history. An avid fisherman, Mike was also recognized as a member of the SC Governor's Top 20 Pistol Team, showcasing his marksmanship. He cherished the mornings spent with his retired friends at their regular breakfast gatherings.

Mike will be remembered for his sharp wit, often giving everyone a hard time, but always with a twinkle in his eye, especially when around his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mike was a spirited family man who loved his family immensely. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Charlene Wood; children, Todd Wood (Michelle), Scott Wood, Stephanie Ross (Adam), and Charmaine Moore (John); brother, Tom Wood (Doti); 14 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and 3 very special nieces.

Mike's legacy of love, humor, and dedication to both his family and community will be deeply missed and forever cherished by those who knew him.

At the request of Mike, there is no service planned. The family will be at the residence.

I am sorry to hear about Mike passing. Thank you Mike for always being good to my daughter, Emily Claire. You were one of the first visitors to our house when she was born. She has many fond memories of times at your pool. Now Morgan and her work together. Praying for comfort for your entire family.

Even though Mike and I hadn´t talked to each other in quite a few years we still considered each other friend.
Another friend of mine had seen Mike at the Carolina High class reunion recently and discussed mine and Mike´s friendship dating back to the late 60´s. Had planned to call and discuss old times with Mike but life got in the way and now it is too late.
No one can really understand what another person is going through but I can empathize with you because I lost my wife to cancer back in Dec 2012.
Charlene sorry for our loss of Mike but at this time especially your loss.
Praying for you and your family.
