Michael Zambory Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 4, 2012.
Michael Zambory
November 4, 1926 ~ May 2, 2012
Pacific Grove ~ Michael Zambory, a 37-year resident of the Monterey Peninsula, passed away at his home on May 2. Born November 4, 1926, he served in the US Army during World War II. His troopship was sailing to Japan when the atomic bombs were dropped and Michael always believed those bombs saved his life.
Michael received his BS degree in Civil Engineering from New York University and later received a minor in Art from Monterey Peninsula College. As a registered civil engineer, licensed in California, he served as City Engineer for six cities throughout the state, ending his career in 1996 as the General Manager of the Carmel Area Wastewater District. There he worked on the Wastewater Reclamation Project which provided recycled water to golf courses in Pebble Beach.
Michael enjoyed playing golf at Table Mountain Golf Club in Oroville, Del Monte Golf Club and Pacific Grove Golf Club where he once had three holes-in-one within a four month period. He loved the outdoors and once hiked to the summit of Mt Whitney, the highest mountain within the continental United States.
A fine artist, Michael was a member of several art associations including 29 years with the Central Coast Art Association where he served on the board as President and Vice-president. He and his wife, Jacqueline enjoyed living in Pacific Grove for the past 32 years. He will be remembered by all for his wonderful sense of humor.
In addition to his wife, Michael is survived by his daughters, Gretchan MacCracken of Oregon and Michele Farrier of Wyoming and four grandchildren.
At his request, no services will be held. Contributions are suggested to the Carmel Foundation, PO Box 1050, Carmel, 93921.

Hi Jackie, My condolences on Mike's passing. I remember when you, Mike and I were taking art classes together at MPC in the "90's. We had such a good time. I also remember Mike's license plate "IBMIKE."

As a long time Board Member and several times President of the Carmel Area Wastewater District I had a many years relationship with Michael. His interest in painting blossomed during his tiime as General Manager and it was fascinating to see his art grow from very simple beginnings to his later sophisticated and fine work.
I consulted Mike when asked to run for Mayor of Carmel and his encouragement was an important factor. There are many good memories.

So very sorry to hear of Mike's passing. Really related to and liked the guy. Played dozens of rounds of golf with him at the PG Links and always found him to be honest and agreeable - a joy to play with. Hope all is well with you and you have our thoughts and prayers with you.

I met Michael at CCAA and will miss his appearance and assistance with managing exhibits. Michael was always a delight. I enjoyed visits about local civic issues and the art world. He and Jackie were a wonderful couple. He was a kind man and always a gentleman. To Jackie and family, Margie & I send our condolences.
