Michel Schneider

SCHNEIDER, Michel Jacques Louis 1930 - 2006 Michel has gone sailing. He got the favoured end of the start line on May 9th when he sailed off into clear air. He leaves his wife Patricia at the helm along with her able crew including sons Marc (Nancy Smith) and Craig (Juliette Couture); grandchildren Claire, Xaviere, Stephanie and Marcel; sister-in-law Doreen Huntington and her sons Guy (Leesa Alldred) and Brad (Angela). Michel introduced the family to his passion for the wind and the waves as children at Seba Beach on Wabamun Lake where they were active members of the Edmonton Yacht Club and the Northern Alberta Sailing College. When not at the helm of Lucie, Michel could be found at the Alliance Francaise d'Edmonton where he enjoyed sharing his cultural linguistic heritage with other members of the international French community. Michel came to Canada in 1953 on a NATO assignment with the French Air Force when he met Patricia at a military dance in Calgary where he was dressed in disguise as a civilian. Following completion of his military service in France, Michel returned to Calgary where they were married. He continued to work in telecommunications with Telus (formerly AGT) first in Calgary and later in Edmonton. His family in France includes his brother Gerard and nieces Catherine (Michel Buchs) and Florence (Gilles Cohendet) and nephew Franck (Christine), as well as, their children. Please join us in bidding adieu to Michel as we wish him safe passage on his journey at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 15th at Trinity United Church, 8810 Meadowlark Road, Edmonton, reception to follow.
