Michelle Leaman Powers Obituary
Michelle Renee Leaman Powers, age 41, passed away peacefully, at the Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon, VA, on Saturday, September 24, 2022, with her family by her side.
Michelle was born in Marion, VA and was preceded in death by her father Mel Leaman and her grandparents, Marty Foltz, James and Lorraine Leaman. She graduated from Marion Senior High School in 1998 and received her associates degree in business from Wytheville Community College. She worked at the Mel Leaman Free Clinic, the Smyth County Court House and Walmart. Michelle was a beloved daughter and sister, and a great mother. She loved being a Gam Gam. She loved her children, loved her grandson, tolerated her mother, and was truly her father’s daughter. Michelle was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Marion. She enjoyed her cats and dogs, crime tv shows, sleeping, and phone calls with her friends
Survivors include, her children, Kendell Powers Thomas and husband Antonio and Jacob Melvin Ryan Powers; grandson, Kobe Jacob Thomas; mother, Jane Leaman; her loving partner, Allen Jones and his daughter Brooke; brother, Brian Leaman and wife Kristen; sister, Kelly Blevins and husband Andy; nephew Trevan Leaman; nieces, Sarah Blevins and Olivia Blevins; uncle and aunt, Jim and Cindy Leaman; the father of her children, Ronnie Powers; and many close friends. She is also survived by her pets, Oliver, Teddy, Fletcher, Cage and Max.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, on Wednesday, September 28, 2022, at Christ Episcopal Church in Marion. Committal services will be in the Church Columbarium. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, from 5-7PM, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Mel Leaman Free Clinic, 601 Radio Hill Rd, Marion, VA 24354 or to Christ Episcopal Church, 401 West Main Street Marion, VA 24354. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.bradleysfh.com. Bradley's Funeral home is serving the family.

Michelle was one of those girls that everyone got along with. She had such a magnetic personality and people from all walks of life were simply drawn to her. She always managed to stop and speak in passing and never hesitated to give you a moment of her time. Her smile was contagious and uplifting and one would never know the struggles she faced. Michelle was one of a kind and I pray her spirit lives on the the hearts of her children and they never forget the love she holds for them. And that they always remember just how special Michelle was! Heaven is so lucky to have such an amazing, strong, and beautiful soul! Rest In Peace my friend.

Jane, Kelly, Brian, and the rest of your family who is now without Michelle,

Leaman was more like a sister than a friend. She and Cherub used to annoy me so much growing up, just as little sisters tend to do, but I loved her, and I would have done anything for her. My memories of Michelle are from the nineteen hundreds! The 1990s! I remember when we were both at MSHS and enjoying the Zumpf family at Christ Church & the cookies after church! The Surbers coming in late and sitting in the back right of the church... funny the things we remember. We were always giving each other a fun time and laughing. Mel always bragged he didn't have stinky feet. Brian and Michelle carrying on too! Life was so simple then AND we didn't even know it! Brian was in my year and Michelle in my brothers class but that didn't matter to me when we were together we laughed and enjoyed each other. You, Michelle, are a treasure and a sweet soul, hug Mel for us, you are irreplaceable I pray your entire family feels your laughter in their hearts, stay sassy friend! You are so loved.

I loved Michelle. The years of working with her at the Free Clinic are amongst my favorite memories. She had a sense of humor like no other. My life is has been blessed to have known her and Mel. Each day that I work at the clinic there is something that will make me think of them. They were never just "co-workers", they were truly "my family".
