MEAD – Kay F. Halbmaier, 69, of Mead, died July 10 at her home.
Halbmaier was born on Sept. 12, 1942 to Elmer and Elma (Seemann) Ryman in Rockford, Ill. She attended elementary school at Vandercook School in Cherry Valley, Ill. until the family moved to Los Alamos, N.M. They returned to live in Marengo, Ill. where she attended Zion Lutheran School. She later graduated from Marengo High School. Later in life, she attended Metropolitan Technical School and received an associates degree in medical transcription. After high school, she worked at Automatic Electric in Genoa, Ill.
She married Gary Halbmaier on July 10, 1964 and they moved to Mead in 1971. After her children were older, she began to work at Fleetwood Industries in Millard. She later worked briefly at Anthony's Steakhouse in Omaha, was a janitor at the Mead Public Schools for several years and had worked at the Alma Angels preschool the last few years.
She was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Wahoo and was a member of the Mead Red Hat Ladies, Mead Volunteer Fire Department and Silver Creek Extension Club. She also served as a Cub Scout Leader.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Lowell Ryman; and brother-in-law, Tom Moore.
She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Shawn Boatman of Houston, Texas; son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Brenda Halbmaier of Mead; grandchildren, Samantha and Jordan Boatman and Evan and Rebecca Halbmaier; brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Judie Ryman of Marengo, Ill.; sisters, Pat Moore of Cherry Valley, Ill. and Barb Mulholland of Rockford, Ill.; several nieces and nephews.
Memorial service will be held Saturday, July 14 at 10:30 a.m. and Gathering with Family and Friends Friday, from 6 to 8 p.m. all at Svoboda Funeral Home.
Inurnment will be at the Scandinavian Cemetery in Rockford, Ill.
Memorials may be made to Mead Ball Association, Mead Fire and Rescue or Lutheran Education Association of Houston.
Honorary bearers are Alice Fortner, Judy Way, Kay Moline and Billie Shook.
Svoboda Funeral Home in Wahoo is in charge of the arrangements.
