I MISS YOU

July 22, 2008
To the entire Renaud family:
There is not a day that goes by that we don't think of you and the family. Mick was a first class person, raised as a gentlemen and a great leader of our team. My entire family enjoyed watching him play as well as interact with the fans, a glove touch was always extended to the kids. We miss him dearly as well as you at the rink. Our prayers will always be with you.

Remember
Remember me when I am gone away,
Gone far away into the silent land;
When you can no more hold me by the hand,
Nor I half turn to go yet turning stay.
Remember me when no more day by day
You tell me of our future that you plann'd:
Only remember me; you understand
It will be late to counsel then or pray.
Yet if you should forget me for a while
And afterwards remember, do not grieve:
For if the darkness and corruption leave
A vestige of the thoughts that once I had,
Better by far you should forget and smile
Than that you should remember and be sad.

Mickey Renaud, he had his whole life set out for him. He was such a leader, and gave so much of his time to the community. You will never be forgotten, Family Day in Ontario will be sad day in Windsor. Not just Windsor, but the whole hockey community and fans will never forget you, what a sad day it was.

To the family,
I only knew Mickey from watching him play with the Spitfires. He was such a fine example of what a hockey player should be. I'm a Plymouth Whaler Fan and when I heard of the sad news I was devastated.
I felt the loss too because I am above all a hockey fan #1 & the loss too because Mickey was way too young. We will all miss him and the loss too of the player he was going to be too.
I can't imagine the pain you are all going through. I will pray for you and may God bless each and everyone of your family.
Sincerely, Joe McGlinchey

I did not know Mickey. I do not know his family. But I do know the love a parent has for their child. I pray to God I never have to feel the heartbreak and loss you are feeling now. It's something a parent should never have to feel. It just doesn't seem right to go before our kids. I hope the day comes soon when you're able to put aside the "why's" and celebrate the wonderful memories Mickey gave you. Rest assured that if Mickey didn't know it then, he knows now his worth because when you become an Angel and sit next to God, you see and hear all. For all who mourn him, your words are heard. May our newest angel watch over and guide all our future "Mickey's".
My Prayers are with you all.

When I heard about Mickey's death I was in shock and total disbelief. My thoughts and prays go out to the Renaud family. Mickey worked extremely hard to acheive his goals but more importantly had a sense of humilty while obtaining these goals. To be truly great one has to stand with people, not above them and Mickey was a great example of this.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Dear Jane and Mark: we go back to high school days in Nfalls when Mark was in our family studies course and he was the hockey player boarding with my friends the Wingers. Mark you were one of the nice guys and Jane was crazy about you. I remember when school ended and Jane called me wondering what to do and I said call him Jane you know him he is so shy....in a nice kinda way...well you did it and it was an amazing ride -you two got married and had two giant size boys. I remember my son coming to Windsor to play ball against Mickey's team. Our boys got mercied. I thought then what a beautiful boy he was. A few years ago we talked again about the birth of Penny Jane. I was so happy you got your girl. We both moved to South Western Ontario, you near Windsor and me near London and both in bedroom communities. You with your three me with my 4. We were rivals in church basketball then team mates in high school and we shared the love of music. Jane and Mark it is every parents nightmare to lose a child and by all the things I have read he was extrodinary. I just remembered how big he was and how much he reminded me of Mark with that goofy grin. You and I would always partner with Mark in class a tease him about his grin! We tried to get him to talk more too. I am so very very sorry dear friends. You love eachother, you were and always will be a perfect match. Hold on to eachother and to your family. Mickey will always be a huge part of your family in all things he will be there forever. xo

We first met when my friend and I came to your home and you dressed us with proper attire for a roaring twenties event we were attending. I extend my deepest sympathy to you and your family, and I pray that somehow your family will find the strength to get through this terrible tragedy.

Growing up in Michigan I was afforded the honor of playing in the Barn several times and became a Spits fan. The hallowed ground the arena sits on is more regal today because of Mickey. My sincerest and heartfelt Condolences to Mickey and his loved ones. My daughter was an athlete, now 27, and I watched how she matured, and flourished as a team member. Basketball was her love. I now understand what team spirit is all about. And I know how each member literally lives for the others. My daughter taught me that. And I understand the dedication it takes to excel. You, Mickey did even more than excel , you shone.
Your's will be a soul missed not only by family, every member of your team as well as your fans, but by every mother and father who ever drove their kids to any arena, anywhere, hoping one day that the sport they love would make them a better person.
God Bless You Mickey

Mickey and Loved Ones;
Im so very saddened beyond words for your unimaginable loss.
I'm an old Tecumsehite. Your passing brings back memories of an old friend of mine from McGregor, who played hockey for Essex many years back. He died suddenly at Cozy corners broadsided by a truck. He was 17.
I recall the whole team acting as pollbearers and how it deeply affected everyone to our inner soul. Your death, Mickey , reminds even old folks like me, that life is very fleeting and so very precious. And I believe you've somehow reminded all of us, even those like myself, who hadn't the honour of meeting you, about everything that's so very important in our lives ; Humility, hard work, self respect, love of our neighbours, dedication and so much more. Know this, Mickey, and family, your death may mean a host of unbearable sadness to so many, however, will be said as years go by, that it will NEVER have been in vain.
May God grant you Peace For All Eternity.

Mr. And Mrs Renaud,
I did not know your son, and as a matter of fact I am not even a spits fan. However I am a mother of a very young boy and as a mother I could only think of you today. As I drove to work today I had to pass by the barn and then walk past the Charles Clark ice rink where I saw many young children skate around relishing in the fun of the winter, and in the back ground there were three flag poles drapped at half mast; a symbol of your son and the love of his game.
In my professional life I work with youth and with a team of people who's daily mission is to help those youth live to their fullest potential. We all know that it takes a parents love and support to make that a reality and from what I gather you deserve the credit for giving your son so many opportunities in realizing the gifts that he had.
We cannot take your heartache away, but what we can do is give you the utmost respect that you deserve as a family who loved and believed in their son.

When I was told about the passing of Mickey, I was overwhelmed with shock and disbelief. I have lots of memories of Mickey when he played for Sun County AAA when I was assistant coach. Matt, my son played with Mick those 2 years. They were good friends and spent many hours together at the Renaud home. I will remember everytime I skated in practices and scrimages with Mick and the Boys at the Ice Park.
I can't imagine what the Windsor Spitfires are going through at this time. I know the special bond, comradery and togetherness that I had felt those 2 years with Sun County. You really do become a family.
Mickey on the ice was very competitive with a drive and determination like no other player I had seen. Mickey had a way to make other people around him better with his hard work ethic, caring for others, charistmatic smile and being very humble at the very least.
I feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity to know Mickey and to be a little part of his life. Mickey was a very inspirational young man. We will miss him, but lets take what Mickey was all about and apply it to our own everyday life.
My condolences to the Renaud Family as well as his Spitfire family.

Our hearts go out to the Renaud Family and the Spitfire Organization. Dealing with lost ourselves of family close members,
a couple times in the last 7 months, words will not heal, time will not heal but time will allow life to continue on. We thought highly of Mickey from his rookie season on and said he will be a great player someday and that he was. But not meeting him personally, I can tell he was a much better person than a hockey player. God Bless!

Our hearts go out to the Renaud Family and to the Spitfire Organization and all extended family and friends.
As a former billet for years with the Spitfires, we know how close the bond can be. At the last game before Christmas on Dec. 23/81 our 8 yr. old son died suddenly. The Spitfire Family rallied behind us at that time and the boys shortened their Christmas plans, to come back and be pallbearers and support for us during our tragic loss. Love each other, you never know what tomorrow brings. God Bless

As parents both at the rink and at home, Mickey's life touched us all. Whether you had the pleasure of knowing him or not, Mickey will always be remembered as a wonderful person and leaves such a legacy in Windsor. And at the end of the day, we all hope to achieve the same. Our prayers go out to the Renaud family. May God bless.

Our deepest sympathies to the Renaud family, friends, classmates and to the entire Windsor Spitfires organization. It is so sad to see such a brilliant young man taken with the best years of his life ahead of him.
In a world were we have so many negative roll models, and troubled young teens, it was nice to see what a wonderful young man he was. Mickey was terrific positive influence for many young people not only in his own community, but now all over the world.
Rest in peace my good friend. May your legacy be a guiding light for all young men & women for many years to come. # 18 RIP Mon Capitaine

Renaud Family:
My name is Michael Marcuzzi and I'm 11 years old. I am sorry for the loss of your great son Mickey. I met Mickey at last summer Spitfires hockey camp and he was very nice to me and made me laugh every day.
Mickey: I am very sad that you are gone but I am sure that you are playing hockey on God's team in heaven and before long you will be the captain of that team. You will be missed but those of us in hockey, now we have a hockey angel looking after us.
