Mike Mehalek

Mike Mehalek, 92, of Valparaiso, Ind., formerly of Rostraver Township, died Thursday, April 17, 2003. He was born Sept. 29, 1910, in Monessen, a son of the late Joe and Matilda Krobat Mehalek. He was a member of St. Timothy Roman Catholic Church and its Holy Name Society and was a retired steelworker from U.S. Steel. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Sistek Mehalek; one son, William Mehalek; one great-grandson, Justin R. Tylka; three brothers, Joe Jr., Stephen and John "Yank" Mehalek; and six sisters, Elizabeth, Matilda, Margaret, Julia, Catherine and Ethel. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Robert Tylka of Valparaiso, Ind.; two grandsons, Robert M. Tylka and wife Lynn and James C. Tylka and wife Judy; one great-grandson, Nicholas Tylka; two great-granddaughters, Kayla and Samantha Tylka; one sister-in-law, Margaret Mehalek of Belle Vernon; and one sister- and brother-in-law, Grace and Andrew Supric of Dearborn, Mich. Friends will be received Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the L.L. BARTHELS FUNERAL HOME INC., Second Street, Smithton. A Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, April 23 at 10 a.m. in St. Timothy R.C. Church with Fr. Paul Stivason as celebrant. Interment will follow in Grandview Cemetery, Monessen.
