Mike Volk Obituary

Mike Volk Sr., 88, of Finleyville, died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2007, in UPMC- Montefiore Hospital, Pittsburgh, following a brief illness. He was born Nov. 18, 1918, in Ginger Hill, a son of Nicholas and Pauline Basurup Volk. He retired as an equipment operator at Consol Coal Company's Mine No. 4 at Hill Station. Mr. Volk was a member of St. Nicholas Orthodox Church in Monongahela. Surviving are two sons, John Volk II and wife Claudia, of Venetia, and Michael Volk Jr. and wife Teresa, of Tulsa, Okla.; two daughters, Pauline Pierce, of Harwood, Md., and Irene Volk, of Mt. Lebanon; and seven grandchildren, Michelle, Brian, Devon, Kristine, Shane, Chad and Amanda. Deceased is his wife, Regina Volk, who died in 2005. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the KEGEL FUNERAL HOME INC., Tim P. Kegel, supervisor, 3560 Washington Ave., in Finleyville. Parastas Services will be celebrated at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. A Funeral Service will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 1, in St. Nicholas Orthodox Church in Monongahela with the Rev. Edward Pehanich as celebrant, followed by interment in Monongahela Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to: St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, Sixth Street and Marne Avenue, Monongahela, Pa. 15063.
