Hancock Mildred (Edsel) Johnson, 83, a resident of N. Lincoln Dr., Hancock, passed away Friday October 24, 2008, at the Cypress Manor Nursing Home in Hancock, where she had been a resident patient for the past two weeks. She was born on December 18, 1924, a daughter of the late Oscar and Wilhelmina (Tapani) Poyhonen. Mildred was a graduate of the Hancock High School. On June 14, 1947, she was united in marriage to Edsel Johnson. Mildred was a member of the First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Houghton. Mrs. Johnson enjoyed spending time with her family, grandchildren and time in her garden working with her plants. Preceding her in death were her daughter and son-in-law: Sandra and John Isaacson, 1 great grandson, her parents, 3 sisters, and 1 brother. Surviving are: Her husband: Edsel Johnson of Hancock Her Sons: Jim (Karen) Johnson of Calumet Chuck (Julie) Johnson of Hancock Jerry (Edie) Johnson of Atlantic Mine Mike (Kriss) Johnson of Atlantic Mine Tom (Amy) Johnson of Hancock Her daughter: Margaret (Mike) Lassila of Howell 55 grandchildren and 40 Great Greadchildren Her brother: Ray (Dorothy) Poyhonen of Hancock Her sisters: Elvie Abramson of Houghton Ina Nordstrom of Hancock Erma Kilpela of Hancock Her twin sister Martha Poyhonen of Hancock Lil Kilpela of Hancock Ruth Jurmu of Hancock Numerous nieces & nephews Funeral Services for Mildred will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday October 28, 2008, at the First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Houghton with Richard Eskola to officiate. Burial will be in the Lakeside Cemetery of Hancock. Friends may call on Monday October 27, 2008, from4 to 8 pm at the First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Houghton and on Tuesday from 10 am until time of services at the church.
