MILDRED NORDAL Obituary

Published by Regina Leader-Post from Apr. 29 to May 3, 2016.
Mildred (Millie) Nordal
(nee Thompson)
December 25, 1923 – April 27, 2016
Millie Nordal passed away peacefully, surrounded by her children, on April 27, 2016 at the age of 92. She was born on the family farm in Bulyea, SK and was the best Christmas gift her family could ask for. Millie knew she wanted to be a teacher from childhood and it was a huge part of who she was. She obtained a teaching certificate as a young adult from the Normal School in Regina and taught from 1941 to 1951. She married the love of her life, Gudmund Nordal, and together they raised four children which she was so proud of. Millie was an excellent homemaker and her passion for educating others was evident with her many years of teaching Sunday School and providing English instruction to new Canadian immigrants, which she did well into her senior years. She was an amazing mother and wife who was very affectionate, generous with her time and put her family's needs before her own. Her deep Christian faith brought her comfort and camaraderie and she was so proud of her Scandinavian heritage – always trying to teach someone a few Norwegian words. Millie's love of music shone through in the many times she would participate in sing a longs at the senior centres, organizing concerts or getting someone up to dance. She was very outgoing and would be the first to cross a room to welcome others with her big smile and kind words. She was predeceased by her husband, Gudmund Nordal, parents Inga and Peter Thompson, sister Agnes Gomez (Art), brothers George (Annie), Perry (Leona), Oscar, John (Joan), and 3 infant siblings, mother and father-in-law Caroline and Andrew Nordal, brothers-in-law, Ivan Harvey, Asbjorn Nordal, Leif Nordal, Boris Korpan, sisters-in-law Viola Ferris, Anne Nordal. Left to cherish Millie's memory are her children Ted (Carol), Diana Florence (Everett), Mary-Lou Foote (Kevin), Barbara Frandsen (Dave). Grandchildren Wray (Jesse) Morrell, Bryce Nordal, Amy Florence (Lindsay Christopherson), Morgan Foote, Erik Foote, Stephanie Frandsen, Darian Frandsen. Sister Mabel Harvey, sisters-in-law Helen Thompson, Alma Korpan, Phyllis Guttman, Lillian Nordal, brothers-in-law Alick Ferris, Andrew Nordal and many nieces, nephews and friends. We will miss our Mom very much, but knowing she is reunited with our Dad brings us comfort. The family would like to thank the staff at Wascana Heights Care Home and College Park II Retirement Residence for their excellent care and to the EMS and Regina General Hospital Emergency Staff for their care and compassion during a very difficult time. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, 190 Massey Rd, Regina, SK with Reverend Amber Hoffman officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Millie may be made to Central Lutheran Church, 2625 12th Ave., Regina, SK., S4T 1J1, Heart and Stroke Foundation, 1738 Quebec Ave., Unit 26 Saskatoon, SK., S7K 1V9 or give the gift of time to a senior – they will enjoy your company and will share some good stories with you!

What a beautiful write up that pays such high tribute to the amazing woman that Auntie Millie was throughout her incredible 92 years of life with us all. I am sure that uncle Gummy, Grandma and Grandpa were all there with open arms, among many others. Loss is never easy, take the time to grieve, and cherish your memories with her.
