Miles Echols Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 21, 2025.
Miles Barney "Uncle Barney" Echols, age 92, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2025, in Birmingham, Alabama. Born on February 4, 1933, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, he lived a long and fulfilling life marked by service, dedication, and joy.

A proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps, Uncle Barney served his country honorably during the Korean War. His time in the military was a defining chapter of his life and reflected his deep sense of duty and patriotism.

Following his military service, Uncle Barney brought his strong work ethic and vibrant spirit to a variety of careers. He found joy in his work at Walt Disney World, where he contributed to the magic experienced by countless visitors. He also worked at Baker Quail Farm-a place that held special meaning for him-and later at Triple Point Industries. Each role showcased his versatility and commitment to doing meaningful work.

Uncle Barney had a passion for life that extended well beyond his professional endeavors. He was an avid golfer who cherished time on the course. A devoted fan of Alabama Football and the Atlanta Braves, he followed both teams with enthusiasm throughout the years. His connection to Baker Quail Farm went beyond work-it was one of his favorite places and a source of great pride.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marlee Wilson Echols. Their bond was a cornerstone of his life and remains a cherished memory for those who knew them.

He is lovingly remembered by David Vaughn and Mary Ellen Maynard (Charles), along with many others whose lives were touched by his warmth and generosity. Known affectionately as "Uncle Barney," he was a wonderful husband, uncle, grandfather, and friend to everyone he met.

May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him and serve as a lasting reminder of a life well lived. Semper Fi. A Graveside Service will be held on July 25, 2025 at Family Cemetery Mullins Cove Road

In Loving Memory of Miles Echols - "Uncle Barney"

We are heartbroken by the loss of Miles Echols, lovingly known to so many as "Uncle Barney." A phenomenal person in every sense of the word, Uncle Barney´s presence lit up every room he entered. His laughter was contagious, his wisdom deep, and his heart impossibly big.

He had a unique way of seeing the best in people and never hesitated to push you toward it. Whether with a kind word, a firm nudge, or a story full of humor and truth, Uncle Barney inspired everyone around him to aim higher, live fuller, and love deeper.

His legacy is not just in the memories we share, but in the lives he touched and the better versions of ourselves he helped us become. He was a guiding light, a true friend, and family to so many beyond blood.

Though he is no longer with us in body, his spirit lives on in the values he stood for, the love he gave so freely, and the countless lives he helped shape for the better.

Rest in peace, Uncle Barney. You will always be missed, forever remembered, and endlessly loved.
