Milton Fogg Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Aug. 1 to Aug. 3, 2009.
PATTEN - Milton "Micky" Fogg, 80, died July 31, 2009, at his home. He was born May 6, 1929, in Crystal, son of Jerome and Alice (Tucker) Fogg. He attended Island Falls schools and was an active member of Patten Methodist Men's Club, where he manned the coffeepot at all the special church suppers. For 29 years he was known around the local area as the "special milkman" who passed out chocolate milk to many children. He worked for Katahdin Creamery, Guimond Farms and Grants Dairy. In his earlier years, he was employed by Fred Quint, an area potato farmer. He and his wife, Louise, also started their own takeout business, Foggs Drive In, and worked together for 30 years with Micky believing he was the boss, but the women in his life had other ideas and delegated him as not the boss, but just a "go-for man." When he "retired" from delivering milk, he went back to becoming "the farmer" for the Qualey boys. Little did they realize that he was really as bossy as their own dad might have been. He was delighted that they gave him the chance to play in the potato dirt again. He also took up a new hobby, and for 15 years plowed snow for Greg Smallwood. He loved every minute of the time that he spent on this new hobby. As a young man he was a hunting and fishing enthusiast. He enjoyed the outdoors and loved picking strawberries and raspberries, and in his later life, gathering produce from the Porter farm and deer watching. He loved reading, particularly Western novels and was an avid fan of Western films, especially those starring John Wayne. This interest was shared by his two sons-in-law that he viewed as his sons. Music was of special interest to Micky and he took delight in attending country music and blue grass concerts with John Brown and Phil Sherman. He is survived by his loving wife and friend of 60 years, Louise (Dunn) Fogg of Patten, she was always there to give him the support he needed, especially for the last two years of his illness; and his two daughters, Barbara and husband, Brad Edwards, of Auburn and Sharon and husband, Mark Porter, of Crystal. He was blessed with three precious grandchildren, Ethan Edwards, Nichole Porter and Nate Porter; and a great-granddaughter, Shiloh Richardson, who could put a grin on his face and a sparkle in his eye. He had a special relationship with Colleen, his sister-in-law "across the driveway," and viewed her as a true sister. He is also survived by four brothers and two sisters, Herschel Fogg of Island Falls, Freda Hunnewell of Auburn, Leon Fogg of Portland, Jason Fogg of New Hampshire, Philip Fogg of Arizona and Isabelle Rickards of New York; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother and four sisters. Friends may call 1-2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5, at Stetson Memorial United Methodist Church, Patten, with funeral services being held 2 p.m. with Pastor David Dyrenforth officiating. Interment will be at Patten Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Patten United Methodist Men's Club, Patten, ME 04765 or Patten Library, Main Street, Patten, ME 04765. Arrangements by Bowers Funeral Home, Island Falls.

Louise,Barb,Sharon and family,
My thoughts have been with you this week. Many memories have been running through my mind....chocolate milk samples of the early years and all the days and nights at the shop. Micky filling the ice cream machines, making sure we were careful straining the grease, teasing us - making us laugh and always making sure we were going to behave ourselves every night after work! He was our second father - looking out for us. Many more of the "neighorhood". All the memories include Mickey smiling, laughing and being fun to know. God Bless you all and know that he lives on in all of you and all that knew him.

Love to all, Lori & Don

Dear Louise, Barbara and Sharon,

I am beyond sorry to learn about Mickey.

The memories of our trips to Maine will always be with me, as you all are.

So much fun (and patience) with me Hunting and Fishing. Loved riding in the Milk Truck to the Farms, and of course going to "Fogg's".

Love Always,

Steve and Dawn Dunn

Mickey Fogg will not only be missed in the Patten area, but in ALL of Katahdin Valley. You cannot imagine how many people set their watches by Mickey going in his truck!!
It was my absolute pleasure to be on the road with Mickey for 25 years. His reputation as a salesman was unsurpassed by anyone.Mickey loved people, and they loved him -- always ready to help or give suppport.
Please take great comfort in knowing that he will never be forgotten, and his stories will be with us always.

To the family of Micky Fogg,
Just wanted you to know how sorry I was to read in the obituary that Mickey had passed on.I was one of those children that ran to the driveway when the milk truck drove in.He always gave me a free carton of chocolate milk and I never forgot that. What a special man he was! My father, Harold Glidden, grew up in the same town with Micky so they knew each other well. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

Louise, Sharon, Barbara and family,
I am sorry to hear of the passing of Micky. He truly was a one in a million. I have wonderful memories of Micky....especially when we worked at Foggs. He loved to hear of our *summer evening antics*, I can still hear that wonderful laugh of his. I can still picture him filling the ice cream hoppers and getting *orders* from Sharon and Louise..we'd tease him telling him that we knew he really was the boss. He was a bright light in our community and we will surely miss him. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. May God give you peace and comfort in the difficult days ahead.
With Love

Dear Louise, Sharon, Barbara, and families,
We were neighbors for many years, friends forever, but most of all like family. I have many wonderful memories of Micky. He was like a second father to me, especially while I worked at Fogg's. I always respected him for hard work ethic, honesty, kindness, caring, and generous heart. He was a good role model for all of us fortunate kids to have known him. He is surely in heaven, as he was a child of God, as he so lived a good life, and a blessing to my life! Prayers, thoughts, and Much Love, Carter
