Milton A. Stotmeister, 84, of East Moline, died Aug. 9, 2004, at Genesis Hospital-Illini Campus, Silvis, Ill. Funeral services are 11 a.m. Friday at Zion Lutheran Church, East Moline where he was a member. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Today at Schroder Mortuary, Silvis. Burial is in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, East Moline. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Zion Lutheran Building Fund or Little Lambs Preschool.
Milton was born July 31, 1920, in Moline, the son of Herman and Carrie Guldenpfennig Stotmeister. He married Blanche Copeland on March 19, 1943, in East Moline; she preceded on Jan. 16, 2000.
Milton was a machinist at the Product Engineering Center for John Deere Harvester Works in Silvis. He retired in 1982 after 25 years of service.
He served in the Coast Guard during World War II as a Motor Machinist Mate serving in North Africa, Southern France, Normandy and Okinawa on the US Joseph T. Dickman.
Milton served on many boards and committees in his many years of service to his church, including his work to help build the new church in 1960 and the church addition in the 1980s. In addition, he served with Laborers For Christ helping with various building projects for several congregations and schools. He was also a farmer and farmed with his father and sons. He was a member of many farming organizations. Milton and Blanche spent several winters in Florida, Arizona and Texas with friends. He was a member of the East Moline American Legion. Milton was devoted to his wife, family and church.
Survivors include his daughter, Carolyn (Herb) Wykert, of Lombard, Ill.; sons, Gary (Vicki), of East Moline, Ken, of Bettendorf, and Carl (Peggy), of Coal Valley, Ill.; his grandchildren,Tracy (Steve) Locanto, Tom (Vicki) Wykert, Cindy (Dale) Cain, Corrie (Kent) Moen, Jen (Greg) Carstensen, Brad (Amy) Stotmeister, Dan (Kim) Stotmeister, Stacie (Charles) Tyler, Megan, Matthew and Kelly Stotmeister; 19 great-grandchildren; a sister, Betty (John) Morgan, of Silvis, Ill.; and brother-n-law, Herman Ebbesen, of East Moline.
He was preceded in death by his sisters Wilma Stithem and Doris Ebbesen.
