Mimi Loeb Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 7, 2006.
Mimi Shea Loeb died peacefully in her sleep while in residence at the Memphis Jewish Home, following a prolonged illness, on August 4, 2006, Born Marie Louise Shea on October 1, 1928, in Memphis, she married Bill Loeb in 1951, and the couple subsequently had nine children, who were featured in weekly newspaper advertisements for Bill Loeb's numerous local businesses. Mrs. Loeb, with her radiant smile, was often featured in the advertisements along with her children. Over the years she became well known and greatly admired in Memphis for her active involvement in the local arts community. Her varied interests also included gardening, poetry, pottery, piano, and yoga. She was a graduate of both Memphis State University and the Memphis College of Art. Mrs. Loeb was a pioneer of health and fitness in the Memphis area. Friends may often remember seeing Mrs. Loeb jogging or biking around town. Mrs. Loeb is survived by her nine children: Bill Loeb, Louis Loeb, Bob Loeb, Mimsy Conaway and Gee Sharp (all of Memphis); Edie Loeb and Mandy Loeb (both of California); Fran Eikenberg and Meg Stecher (both of Texas). She is also survived by her brother, Dr. Coyle Shea and 18 grandchildren. She was a member of the Unitarian Church of the River, where a memorial service will be held Saturday, August 12, at 11 a.m. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the Memphis Academy of Art, Christian Brothers University, or Concerts International. This I know: I recognized Mom for the special person she was early in my life. I told her often, so I feel satisfied that she knew how much I admired & looked up to her. What I am dissatisfied with is the amount of time I got to spend with her. I knew this day was coming, but "NO, God!! Not yet!!" I love my mother, and I thank everyone who has loved her and has signed this guest book and/or showed up for the memorial service. She indeed was Grace personified. edie loeb (5th in line!)

I so enjoyed my visits with Mimi. She always had her list of things she wanted to know. I much admired her determination to utilize her computer not matter what.
