Min was a wonderful man, who volunteered to fight for Canada at a time Japanese-Canadians had been shamefully interned, their assets stripped, and of course were not allowed to vote. I was so honoured to meet Min Yatabe at a Remembrance Day ceremony out here in 2013, and talk to him later by phone. What a lovely man, without a shred of bitterness over the way Japanese had been treated by his native land. I was sad to hear about his passing, which was mentioned at this year's Remembrance Day ceremony at the Japanese-Canadian WWI memorial in Stanley Park. After meeting Min, i wrote this about him, a hero in every way. https://mickleblog.wordpress.com/2013/11/10/minoru-yatabe-canadian-veteran/

Condolences to Lydia and family on the loss of Min. My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this difficult time.

I have only known Min for four short years but I am very honoured to have known him. I have many fond legions memories of Min which include Min proudly placing a wreath at many Todmorden Branch #10 Legion Memorial Services, his last one being our Heroes of Suicide in September of this year. I will miss Min standing beside me, giving me moral support and being both saluted and returning the salute at the march pass of the East York Remembrance Day Service.

Rest in Peace, Min. You will be thought of and missed by many Comrades of Todmorden Branch #10. Thank you for your service and being a friend.

Lydia and family:

There are no words....Min was one in a million. I will never forget the Yatabes and a neighborly bond that endured over eighty years through 3 generations of my family.

We are thinking of you always.

It was a privilege to call Min my comrade at Todmorden Branch 10 of the Royal Canadian Legion. November 8th, 2018 is the 40th anniversary of Redress for all Canadians of Japanese origin. Min's war time exploits and those of my late friend George Kadota played a key role in making Redress happen.

As a 5T2 classmate of Min's,I had the pleasure of getting to know Min and his lovely wife, Lydia, and Dee Dee and Brian. They were all enthusiastic participants at the class reunions.Min always had a smile and loved the reunions deeply. I believe he willed himself to attend just one month before he passed away. We will all miss him and I hope he will continue to be remembered and represented at the reunions by Lydia,Dee Dee and Brian.

In sympathy,

Tom Hall
