Sallie Ruth Root

Sallie Ruth Root Sallie Ruth Root, of Tyler, Texas, passed away April 2, 2011. Sallie was born February 28, 1925, in Bridgeport, Alabama. After graduating from Bridgeport High School, she moved to Port Arthur, Texas, where she worked for a short time at the Gulf Refinery. Most of her life she spent as a dedicated housewife, mother, and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Roy Root, Sr.; a brother, Thomas Joyner; and a sister, Doris Fay Joyner of Port Arthur; and a sister, Juanita Mayo of Bridgeport, Alabama. She is survived by two sons, Gary Root and wife, Judy of Tyler and Lawrence Root, Jr. and wife, Mary Ann of Groves, Texas. Also survived by one sister, Allyne Lyda of Port Neches, Texas; and grandchildren, Brad Root and wife, Smittee of Lindale, Christy Stregles and husband, Aaron of Tyler, Ronald Root and wife, Angie, and Glenn Root and wife, Terry of Groves, Peggy McMourrgh and husband, Joe of Jasper, Texas, Larry Root and wife, Rebecca of Jasper, Linda Baumgartner and husband, Terry of Houston. Mrs. Root is also survived by many great and great-great grandchildren. Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, April 6, 2011, at 1:00 p.m., with Dr. Rick Erwin officiating at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves, Texas. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m., at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves.
