GREENSBORO — Mrs. Miriam Elizabeth Cooper, 84, of Greensboro, died Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at Blumenthal Jewish Nursing and Rehab Center.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 16, 2011 at the Forbis and Dick Guilford Chapel. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Mrs. Cooper was born in Atlanta, GA, the youngest of eight children. She attended and graduated from Girls High School in Atlanta. She then attended Mars Hill College and graduated with an associate degree in music. Miriam was a devout Christian and that was evident throughout her life work and ministry. She worked prior to being married for the Home Mission Board of The Southern Baptist Convention and following her move to Greensboro she served as the Chairman of the Christian Woman's Club and played for numerous churches in the Greensboro community including, First Baptist Church and Florida Street Baptist Church. She is a former member of Buffalo Presbyterian Church where she served as the church secretary for a number of years. Throughout her life, her mission was to share her faith through teaching, her testimony, and music.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years W. Garland Cooper of the home; two daughters, Valeria Cooper and Robyn Cooper both of Greensboro. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hardy and Pearl McConnell Quigley, three brothers and four sisters all of Atlanta. She is survived by many nieces and nephews in Georgia, Tennessee, and Florida.

The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Forbis and Dick Guilford Chapel. On-line condolences may be offered at www.forbisanddick.com.

The family of Mrs. Cooper would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Michael Norins, the staff of Wesley Long and Moses Cone Hospitals, and to the staff of Blumenthal Jewish Nursing Center, for their kind and compassionate care given to Miriam.
