Miriam O'Brien Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 22, 2025.
Miriam "Miki" Frances O'Brien, 92, of Clinton, Washington, passed away peacefully on September 6th, 2025, with family by her side, in Mukilteo, Washington.

Born March 24th, 1933, in Boise, Idaho, to John and Fern Flaherty (Vernon), Miki graduated from St. Teresa's Academy and earned her degree as a Medical Technologist from Boise State College. She never stopped learning and growing, maintaining her Medical Technology certification for over 50 years - quite an achievement while raising eight kids!

She married John O'Brien on December 29th, 1954, in Boise, Idaho, sharing 62 years of adventures together until his passing. Their journey took them from Seattle to Portland, Southern California, and finally to Whidbey Island.

Miki lived a rich and fulfilling life that touched so many people. We will all remember her wonderful laugh, her unbeatable Scrabble skills, and her passionate commitment to helping others. She was a wonderful mom and grandma, reading, cooking, crafting, and guiding us on our way. We will never forget the unconditional love she gave to every one of us.

She devoted considerable time to various organizations, including Senior Services, Women of Saint Hubert's, Readiness to Learn, and Helping Hand. She was also a dedicated Catechism teacher in the parishes she belonged to.

She is survived by seven children: Julia O'Brien (Dwight Zehm), Douglas O'Brien (Sue), Molly Johnson, (Kevin), Brian O'Brien (Tam), Jay (Cara), Andrew (Cinnamon), Brendan (Tina); 13 grandchildren: Michael, Shane, Colleen, Sara, Bridget, Shannon, Julia, Darius, Tanner, Kaedan, Erik, Megan, Katie; 11 great grandchildren: Olivia, Mason, Taya, Kinley, Kayla, Laney, Julian, Audrey, Nathan, Logan, Lucy; and three great, great grandchildren: Bailee, Junior, Brinlee.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John, her son, Aaron, her grandson, Ramon Limon, and her great-grandson, Jesse Limon.

We will gather to celebrate Mom's life on Saturday, November 8th, at 11am at St. Hubert's Catholic Church in Langley. We invite you to stay and share memories over a meal after the service.

For those wishing to honor her memory, we suggest a donation to Readiness to Learn or Island County Senior Services, two causes that were very dear to her heart.

While we will miss her deeply, we take comfort in knowing that her legacy lives on in the many lives she touched and in our wonderful memories of her.

Please share this news with others who knew and loved Mom.

With love,

The O'Brien Family

My love and condolences to your family. What a wonderful mom and person she was! She certainly raised a great son, Brendan! Who is a kind, thoughtful and loving partner to my best friend, Tina! That is a legacy she had a big part in! :)
