Missy Zane Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 6, 2022.
Missy Zane, 78, passed away on Sept 14, 2022 at Howard County General Hospital. Born in Baltimore and raised in Pennsylvania and NJ, Missy was a resident of Columbia since 1969. She will be remembered fondly as a former writer/editor of the Columbia Times and the Columbia Flier, and especially as the founder of the Howard County Cat Club where she shared her passion for cat rescue with many volunteers who helped her to save hundreds of cats from being euthanized in high-kill shelters. She is survived by, and will be loved always by her children, Amy (Zane) Kline and Jonathan Zane as well as her six grandchildren who she was so proud of: Brooke, Morgan, Austin, Carter, Ilana and Julian. Donations can be made in her memory to any cat sanctuary or no-kill shelter/rescue.

I am so sorry to hear of Missy's passing. I met her about 20 years ago. She helped me spay/neuter a feral cat colony. We stayed in touch for a while and then I moved to the other side of Columbia and we lost touch. I ran into her again in one of the Giant food stores and we chatted for a bit. I share her love for cats! Missy really taught me a lot about cats and feral cats. I will keep her in my heart and wish her family prayers and love. God bless her.

I first met Missy when I was assistant director at the Columbia Petting Zoo. While working for the Howard County Times she asked me to submit a weekly column in pets. We worked together on this column until she left the Times. Missy was a beautiful soul whose love of animals, especially cats was contagious to all who knew her. I will hold her memory forever in my heart. After all, isn´t that where heaven truly is?
