Mohammad Khan Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 24, 2016.
KHAN, DR. MOHAMMAD A. unexpectedly passed away at his home on Saturday, April 9, 2016. He was the devoted husband of Sheila Khan and loving father of his Mitthoo four boys, A. Edward Khan, Alam Khan, Saleem Khan and his wife Meredith, and Kamran Khan and his wife Erin; and doting grandfather to Alayna, Madison, Silas, Quentin and Chace. He leaves behind his brothers, Akhtar and Saleem, his sister, Mushtari, and nieces Uzma and Seerat, all of Pakistan. Dr. Khan was born in India, later moved to Pakistan when the country was newly formed. He was a graduate of the prestigious King Edward Medical College and moved to the United States in 1959 to complete his medical training at Harvard Medical School and also to fully embrace the freedoms of America, of which he always stated were greater than what he ever imagined. Along with Dr. Myron Stein, Dr. Khan established the pulmonary and respiratory therapy departments in several Massachusetts and Rhode Island hospitals in the 1960s before settling down with his growing family and entering private practice in Pawtucket, RI, with an affiliation with Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island for over 40 years. He was also a long term clinical faculty on the Brown University Medical School teaching staff. Famous for spending inordinate amounts of time with each of his patients, Dr. Khan was also notorious for equally long wait-times in his waiting room. But, as Dr. Khan was always loyal to his patients, practicing medicine right until the end, his patients were always loyal to him, in return. Words cannot describe the sorrow of Dr. Khan's passing, but that sorrow will be far overtaken by the love and generosity which fills our memories of the time we had with him. May God bless you for eternity... A private burial was held at the Seekonk Town Cemetery. A memorial will be held in Dr. Khan's honor at the Ramada Inn in Seekonk, MA, at 2pm on Sunday, May 15, 2016. Family, friends, patients, colleagues, and all else are invited. Please RSVP by May 5 at [email protected] or call 508-951-9038.

Dr Khan was a gentle giant of medicine, a very loyal friend to have and a doctor's doctor who inspired so many young doctors how to become the real humane doctors. I am personally indebted by his largesse as he was instrumental in getting me to join Immunology/ Oncology fellowship at Brown University in 1977. I'd always remember interacting with his very gracious & kind- hearted wife Mrs Sheila Khan. Ma'm, our deepest sympathy & prayers are with you & your family. May the good lord give you strength to endure the sad loss of your peerless soul mate. Sincerely, Sattar & Marjorie Memon, Providence

My deepest condolences to Dr. Khan's family. I worked with Dr. Khan for many years. He would come to see his patients in the ICU at Memorial. He would always have time to sit and chat with me. He was a great story teller. Just one of the good ones. I will think of him fondly and miss him greatly.

So sad to hear of Dr. Khan's passing. I will never forget how compassionate and caring this doctor was. He always had a greeting smile that would light up a room and would ask how things were going....what a great guy. He was my doctor for many years in Pawtucket till we moved. May he rest in Peace!

I was also shocked and saddened at the news of Dr. Kahn's passing. He was mine as well as my brother's doctor for many years. He always made time to see us and always took the time to do everything possible to help us. He was a very kind, funny and sweet soul. His smile could light up a room. My sincere condolences to his family and all of his patients. He will be greatly missed by many.

My mother and I offer our deepest sympathies to his family. He was my doctor for many years and my mother's doctor for over 25 years. Dr. Khan was the kindest, most generous, and loving person I have ever met. He genuinely enjoyed healing and helping people. He treated all his patients as individual people, and not just a disease to be managed. I will truly miss our conversations. There are no words to convey how much we loved him and will miss him. I know he is in heaven now chatting with Ronald Reagan about what a bad state our country is in. Again, our deepest sympathies to his family.

To the Khan family, please accept my deepest sympathies on the passing of Dr. Khan. I spent a lot of time at the Khan residence as a young man, and always enjoyed his company.

I'll share a quick story. When I was 16 years old we had to get our senior yearbook photos taken. At the time, I couldn't tie a tie. I stopped over Dr. Khan's house that morning and he tied it for me. Bailed me out! Every time I look at my senior photo, Dr. Khan comes to mind. RIP, Dr. Khan.

Deepest sympathies from my family to the Khan family on the loss of husband, father, and friend. He was unbelievably kind in his care and friendship for my father, Dr Eugene Gaudet. I had a great amount of admiration and love for Dr Khan. His death is a loss for us all, and the world is a better place for him having been here.

Doctor Khan's death gives me great sadness but the memory of a warm caring person eases that pain. I have excellent memories of him on the teaching staff when I was an intern; and I am also very greatful for all the care he gave my father for many years, patiently managing and coaching a fellow physician who had a mind of his own. My father always spoke of "Mo Khan" in the highest terms and with the greatest respect. He was a true doctor, in the noble sense of the term.

My Condolences to Dr. Khan's family.
He was a true pioneer in his specialty and contributed and gave so much to all in his care.

I had the pleasure to first meet him at the Seekonk High School Track while taking Shot Put practice on various workout days. He participated in the Olympics in his younger years and our conversation was always very pleasant.

Very humble and a true gentleman.

God bless+ you Dr. Khan.

Sincerely,
Robert Mansour
