Mohanlal Kababhai Parmar

Mohanlal Kababhai Parmar July 15th, 1907 March 4th, 2007. Mohanlal Parmar, of Swift Current, SK at the age of 100 years, has been called to be with his beloved wife, Vijya Parmar. Together they raised seven children, Diwaliben (Popatlal), Ramnik (Indira), Chanduben (Gopalji), Ushaben (Bhikhulal), Suresh (Uma), Kishore (Sulochana) and Ramesh (Nina). He will be missed by his 19 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. Mohanlal Parmar was born in Majavdi, India in 1907. At age 17, he went to Uganda, Africa. There he started working in a cotton mill in Kabulubulu and also in an oil mill in Kampala. In Mbale, he then opened a machine shop, "Nanak Engineering Works " with three partners. In 1960 he opened his own machine shop "Elgon Engineering Works ". All this was accomplished with only a formal grade one education. In 1972 he and his family were part of the exile forced by Dictator Idi Amin and fled to the UK. In 1975, he moved to Canada. Although retired at this point, he often would spend his time down at Wheatland Machine Shop (Swift Current, SK) helping where he could and giving inspiration to his family who ran the business. He loved gardening, which he did with pride with his wife by his side. He also spent many hours doing puzzles and walking. His eyes would light up when he was around his grandchildren and great grand children. Bapa, the name that we all knew him by, was known famously by his family for his outstanding sense of humor. The Parmar family would like to thank all the nursing staff at the Pioneer lodge and all the wonderful nurses on the 2nd floor at the Palliser for taking special care of a special man. The personal care received by the nurses in palliative care will not be forgotten. The Funeral will be held on Wednesday March 7th ,2007, at 12:30 p.m. at Prairie View Crematorium, Hwy 11 South of Saskatoon, 374-0140.
