DAIBES
Mona Assad, of Edgewater, 72, passed away on February 21, 2013.
Born in Haifa, Palestine to the late Dahoud and Rasha Naoum, she and her family moved to Beirut, Lebanon before she was 8 years old. There, she met and married the late Assad Yousef Daibes in 1956. Assad Daibes died on September 11, 1980.
"My mother was the matriarch of our family and the guide of our lives," said Fred A. Daibes, a prominent developer in northern New Jersey. "Her life took her from Palestine, now Israel, to live in the Middle East and then to the United States. She always saw opportunity wherever life took her."
In addition to Fred A. Daibes and his former wife Elizabeth Doran, Mona Daibes was the adored mother of Frieda A. Daibes and her husband Michael Helewa, Joseph A. Daibes and his wife Lisa Hall, Regina A. Daibes and her husband Phil Arfuso, and Eptisam (Sue-Sue) A. Daibes and her husband Thomas Pellegrino.
She was the treasured grandmother of fifteen grandchildren, Joseph, Anthony, Colette, Alexander, Michael, Marc, Fouad, Assad, Zachary and his fiancée Luisa Vanegas, Vincent, Mona, Thomas, Regina, Ava, and Sophia. She also is survived by a great-grandchild Joseph Vincent, born to Assad Daibes and Kathryn Ilardi.
Daibes also is survived by her four siblings, Ghada Naoum, Souheila Naoum, Ibtissam Naoum, George Naoum and his wife Janette Faddoul and their three children, as well as many devoted and loving nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Khlas Azzi.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, February 22, 2013 from 2-9 PM at AK Macagna Funeral Home (201-945-7100) at 495 Anderson Ave. in Cliffside Park.
