Mona Fontenot Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 27, 2016.
Mona L. Fontenot, 74, of Lake Charles passed away June 27th, 2016 at a local hospital. Born in Siler City, North Carolina, she was the oldest child of the late Everett and Inez Johnson. She and her two brothers were raised in Charleston, South Carolina and were each other's best playmates.
Mona had a great love of family and was very close to her children and grandchildren. After 30 years of service as a phone operator, she retired from Bellsouth. She was an active member of First Baptist Church in Moss Bluff and loved lunch with her friends from church and taking trips with the church groups. Although Mona was private by nature, she always had a kind word for those who knew her and a sweet nature that those who knew and loved her will greatly miss.
Mona is survived by her son; Bryan (Jennifer) Fontenot, daughter; Kimberly (Joe) Peshoff, grandchildren; Nicholas Fontenot, Jacob Fontenot, Tyler Peshoff, and Tanner Peshoff, brothers; Johnny (Joyce) Johnson and Michael (Sue) Johnson, her beloved pet and companion; Barney, and many extended family and friends.
Visitation to be held Sunday, July 3, 2016 from 12:00 to 3:00 pm with Funeral Service to be at 3:00 pm at Hixson Funeral Home in Moss Bluff. Words of comfort may be shared with the family at www.hixsonfuneralhomes.com

A good conversation that welcomed laughter was always an interest of her nature. Her focus was always on her family that created a ray of sunshine to brighten her day. Sadly missed, but thanks for the memories.

I am sad to hear of Mona's passing and offer my condolences to her family. Mona was a quiet lady but very genuine in her faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. I am grateful that I got to know her. I know she is resting in peace in glory land.

I am so sorry to hear of my friend Mona's passing. I have known her for many years. I met Mona when I came to her house and brought her a Sunday School book and invited her to my class. The next Sunday she came and we became friends. We began to walk together in the afternoons after work and continued to walk together for years. In recent years Mona came with the Triple L (senior adult) group on a couple of senior adult conferences. I could tell she really enjoyed those trips.

Mona was a steady, loyal friend who loved her family and was so proud of you all.

I remember how much Mona enjoyed the women's conferences at church in the days when FBC: Moss Bluff had nationally known speakers. She loved church and her Sunday School class and most of all the Lord.

I will sure miss her. She was my friend.
