To The Family:

You are in my thoughts and prayers, I remember your mother's warm smile as a child who grew-up with Marcus and Nicole. Your mother was a beautiful woman with a beautiful heart, that touched many hearts. Mona will be missed by all, she is sitting at the right hand of God with a smile looking down upon all of you and thinking I did a wonderful job. Continue to let her soul shine within each and everyone of you.

I was saddened to hear about Mona's passing. I met Mona when first I started working with the Minneapolis schools through WMEP. She was just such a help and a great mentor - so willing to share her knowledge and wisdom - always so warm and ready with a hug everytime I saw her. Whenever I had a question and picked up the phone to call her, I knew I could count on some good, solid, honest answers. You will be missed, Mona, very, very much.

My deepest sympathies to the Harris family.

Words can not describe how much I will miss Mona. I called her my "Minnesota Mom" because she took care of me during the time I knew her. She interviewed me for the job and I knew meeting her that MMEP is where I wanted to work. She was so goofy and just loved to laugh and tell stories all the time. I'm going to miss that more than I can imagine. My condolences and prayers go out to the Harris Family.

To Mona's family,
I spent one lovely evening at your home several years ago and visited with Mona and Ron in the kitchen. It felt as if I had known them my entire life; they were so hospitable. As a Board member of MMEP, I visited with Mona many times and saw her as my friend, although I know she had many. My sympathies to all of the family. I have met you through Mona's love for you.

To the Harris Family and friends at MMEP.
Words can hardly express the depth of my appreciation for Mona, the person, the friend. She was a unique and wonderful individual. We all know time is the greatest healer, but some things that happen in life take more time then others to begin to heal. This will be one of them. Find peace in prayer, love of family and friends and the solid, beautiful memories of Mona. She would want it that way.

Mona has to be one of the nicest persons I have ever met, the nicest boss I’ve ever had. She was always making sure I was comfortable at work and outside of work. She was very caring and encouraging, making sure school was my priority and reminding me how bright of a person I was. She was the person who interviewed me at MMEP and through her was how I was able to get the privilege of learning from and working in a great organization with very friendly people. She would always poke fun at me and make me smile. I will miss her jokes and certainly miss her smiles. The office will feel very different without her. I am so thankful to have had her in my life. I will miss her very much!

Dear Harris Family,

I will never forget April 15, 2004 when I was in the hospital waiting for my wife to give birth to our first child. It was the day after my Mom had lost her battle with cancer. Mona came in the room and woke me up and took me to breakfast. That moment meant and means so much to me. She helped me through the hardest time in my life. She will always be remembered for the genuine and loving person she truly was.

Unbeilvable! I wish Mona were here to put into her eloquent words how I feel. She was my pal, my strength, my confidont, partner in crime, we'd go every Friday to either get our hair done or to buy shoes. If we only had enough for 1, the hair always won. She was my friend. My daughter's god mom. I'm so impressed to see additions here from all over the States. She was well loved. As much as it hurts to have her gone, I know she's having quite the party up there. Just give her a couple of weeks and she'll have a commitee formed to fix all of us down here. Listen for her words, we'll hear them. loving you Harris' and Mona.

Mona was a dear friend of Patrick Henry High School that continued to serve our staff and students in our Booster Club and Site Council long after Shane graduated.

Mona was the rock of our school and the light that provided us clarity and direction for so many years. I know that she will continue to guide us in the future.

Dear Ron, Shane, Nicole and Marcus, It has been a few days since I learned of Mona's passing and it seems I still cannot get my mind around that. She was such a loving/giving presence while she was here on earth. She had so much passion for her life's work and such a commitment to ending inequality and injustice. She had wonderful skills of tact and diplomacy while never missing the point/saying what needed to be said. I loved her sense of humor and that twinkle in her eye. I met her through the Patrick Henry Booster Club and got to know her more while she served on the Patrick Henry Site Leadership Council. She had such a keen sense of insight. She touched hundreds of lives in a hundred different ways. Someone like that does not come along very often. It's so hard to comprehend the loss, to get used to it. My heart goes out to all of you--what a wonderful spirit she was....

Harris Family, I met Mona about 13 years ago at Olson Middle School. What a woman! Four of us, as Educational Assistants, came together along with one teacher for a wonderful year of comraderie and teaming. Mona and I kept that relationship going the last couple years by getting our hair cut at the same time by our friend Karrie Hansen. We laughed, gossiped, and went out for dinner. Mona's sense of justice was always prevalent. She was a terrific listener and yes, her hugs were all-enveloping. She could ask questions in such a way that caused you to really think about situations. She presided at my daughter Lisa's wedding which was very special to my family. I will miss her terribly and love her always. She made this world a better place. God will bless and care for her and for your family. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

How does one person touch so many hearts? I was completely shocked when I heard of Mona's passing. She always greeted me with such joy and love, with her beautiful smile and great big hug. Dear Harris family,

I met Mona when I worked at Olson Middle School as a teacher and she was a para. She always had a smile on her face no matter how crazy those days were. I also remember her fondly because she took a special interest in Ross, a fellow teacher at the time and later my husband, and me. No one knew we were dating but she had guessed it. So when Ross was out of town once, as soon as he returned she went to see him to let him know that she had been watching out for me, protecting me in his absence. She always made me laugh and even though it has been awhile since I have seen her I will always remember her smile and her hugs. I am sure Ross is up in heaven giving her a big hug and welcoming her.

Dear Noodle. Marcus, Shane, and Mr. Harris:

There is no consolation or substitution when God calls home someone we love. But, the mark of a persons greatness is the lives that she touched while walking this earth. As I scrolled through the guest book entries, it was reconfirmed for me to that Mrs. Harris was a true saint of the people. She touched my life in profound ways. You all have. I see Mrs. Harris's face in my head, and I can hear her laughing. I miss her. I miss hearing her voice asking me when I am going to come and see her. I am so sorry that I promised so many times and only rarely was able to follow through. I love you all.

Dear Harris Family,

Mona was a rare and fabulous person. I sat with her and Ron during swimming meets where Shane and my son, Komyung, were competing for PHHS. The love that I saw between Ron and Mona was so beautiful and is a priceless example of what a husband and wife can be together. She epitomizes the spirit of giving and being for the sake of other people. I wish you comfort during this time of sorrow.

Dear Harris Family,
We are overwhelmed with sadness to hear about Mona passing away. I have known Mona from the neighborhood for years. Her children grew up knowing my children. Nicole was on the Henry/North swim team with my daughter Hayley. Shane and Ivy started out in elementary school together and graduated from the same high school. Sasha and Colin have fond memories of her at Franklin Jr. High. Over the years I saw less of Mona but when we would meet and talk, I always left telling myself I need to stay more connected to her. She had such a wonderful energy and positive outlook on life. Her laugh was contagious. Mona will be in my thoughts forever.

Dear Family Members,
Mona was an enthusiastic supporter of children, and advocated strongly for them. She was always happy to promote programs that served students.

I was so sad to hear the news of Mona's passing. She has been such a inspiration to me for the last 18 years because of her passion and committment to the North side of Minneapolis. Though I only saw her once or twice a year, she was always so kind to spend time connecting with me. I will miss seeing her around the north side. My deepest sympathies to her family on behalf of many of the teachers working for MPLS public schools. Today at a staff development session for teachers, many teachers had connections to Mona and spoke to her relationship to their lives.

Dear Harris Family,

In reading all the entries in the guest book, I am finding it hard to come up with new words to describe the remarkable angel on earth that was Mona Harris. She took me under her wing back at Franklin Middle School in 1991 when I was a new teacher. She served the entire school community with compassion and kindness and was fierce in her belief that all students deserved a quality education. Mona was and will continue to be one of my most treasured memories of Franklin. Her spirit and grace was unmatched by any other even as the doors of Franklin closed. When my own mother passed away a few years back, Mona was quick to give me love and comfort and I have never forgotten that. She was and will continue to be one of a kind. I am thankful and humbled to have known such a sweet soul. Much love to your entire family, Hayley Forrest

I want to extend my sympathy to you and your extended family. I had the privilege of working with Mona through MMEP, for the past several years. She was always gracious and given to humor in the face of obstacles. She will be missed.

Dear Ron,
I extend my sympathy to you and your family. May each of you be comforted by your faith, your friends, and each other.
I was honored to know and work with Mona on behalf of students. She was one of those rare individuals who has an impact on our hearts even after a brief meeting and for that reason she will be deeply missed by many.

Peace,

Craig and Jan Dahlberg

Harris family,
I cannot express the mixture of sorrow and joy I feel about the passing of Mona. It sorrowful for all of us left on earth who will miss her and her wonderful personality. I was so happy to see her for Karin's shower and blessed that Ron and she could attend the wedding. The joy we must feel is because she has gone home to the Heavenly Father and she will be looking after the rest of us forevermore. Our love and prayers go out to your entire family.

I was surprised and saddened by the news of Mona’s passing. She was a life force… a thoughtful woman of tremendous integrity, passion and energy… committed to equitable access and opportunity for all students. It was a privilege to have known and worked with her. My condolences to her family and to the many colleagues and friends who will experience the profound impact of her loss.

Dear Ron and Harris Family,

Joseph and I were so sad to read about Mona. Please know that you are in our hearts and prayers.

I had the fortune to work with Mona at MMEP a few years ago. Mona was always so kind and sweet to me. She LOVED talking about her family (Ron, the kids and grandkids). You were all such a light in Mona's life - you were her everything. I always admired how much she loved (and was loved by) her family and friends.

I am very, very sorry for this great loss. Mona was very special!

Love,
Tara and Joseph Romanov LaFerla

Dear Harris family,

I am so sorry for your deep loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this very difficult time.

I knew Mona professionally. I am a member of the After School Intervention Collaborative (ASIC) that Mona coordinated for a number of years. When I had just started a new position with a new agency, she affirmed me and inspired me to do my best. She was so warm and so kind.

Mona brought out the best in every person she touched. She was extraordinary, and you must be so proud of her!

I was so very sorry to hear about Mona. I've known her since she was in the 8th grade in Silver Bay. She was my daughters best friend, and a very special member of my family. In fact, she and Ron are God-parents for one of my grandchildren. She officiated at the memorial service for my husband, and it was so comforting to have her there with her soft voice, guiding words, and loving care. We will miss her in the future, and treasure her friendship and love in the past.

She did so much - touched so many. What a great model of a person focused on making a difference. Thanks, Mona for all you did - and for all that you encouraged, inspired and helped others to do.

Thanks MMEP for working with and learning from this remarkable person.

Mona was one of those unique people who can get angry and active about injustice but who can do it with a smile -- and in Mona's case it was a sincere smile at that. Among other things she and I shared and talked about was a belief in the prevaling power of hope. She will be missed but whatta legacy she leaves.

Dear Harris Family and MMEP,
I received the email from MMEP and it brought tears to my eyes. I am at a loss for words, she told me she was ill but ever hopeful. Mona had such a warm, welcoming, inclusive spirit. She was so encouraging. I will miss her suggestions and support in the coming days. Her love for our community, schools and kids will be greatly missed by all. My thoughts and prayers are with you. I will miss her gentle smile, advice and guidance.

Mona was such a loving, caring, patient, efficient, and supportive person. She was also very encouraging and persuasive. It was always a joy and pleasure to connect and work with her. She did a wonderful job of making things happen, and of letting people know what was happening at MMEP. We'll all miss her.

Though I knew Mona only through her work at MMEP, that limited contact was all one needed to recognize her openness, strength of purpose and generosity of spirit. Her warmth, sincerity and infectious dedication were truly remarkable.
May you find peace in joyful memories.

To the Harris Family,
You have my deepest sympathy in the loss of your wife, mother and grandmother.
I knew Mona professionally for the last 20 years and admired her work in achieving a quality education for all children, especially the underserved.
She was true advocate for children.
She will be missed by all of her colleagues but especially by all of the children whom she fought for the right to achieve an equal education.
May she rest in peace.
Peace to you as a family,

Dear Harris Family,
I am saddened by the loss of dear Mona. I have only known Mona for several years as a member of the College Goal Sunday task force, but working with her was such a pleasure. She was always upbeat and positive. She has such a warm and inviting personality and she has these "smiling eyes". I loved how she always signed her emails with "Peace and Justice to you and to all of us". I will always have fond memories of Mona - what a beautiful soul she has.
