Monfort J. (Jerry) Walker

Monfort J. (Jerry) Walker, aged 93, passed away on October 20, 2024, at CedarBrook Fountain Hill, PA. Born on March 25, 1931, in Gray, GA, he was a son to the late Randal and Beulah (Wilder) Walker. Monfort was the cherished husband of the late Katie O. Walker and was also preceded in death by his sisters Lois Colbert, Nettie Ward, and Minnie Singleton, as well as his brother Wilson (Jim) Walker and nephews Conrad Ward, Othor and Alfred Colbert, alongside his daughter, Jacalyn Roseann Walker.

Monfort graduated from Gray High School in Gray, GA. He served honorably in the Army of the USA from October 18, 1953, to October 18, 1959, attaining the rank of Corporal and continued his commitment in the Standby Reserves. Professionally, he dedicated many years to Duggan and Marcon, Inc., starting as a truck driver and later advancing to warehouse manager. He was a proud member of the Labors International Union of North America, Local #1174 in Allentown, PA.

A devout member of St. Paul Baptist Church in Bethlehem, PA, Monfort served as an Usher and Trustee, and formerly as a teacher and superintendent of the Sunday School. His faith and dedication to service were evident in his commitment to his community, notably in his tireless efforts to ensure his neighbors' sidewalks were clear of snow, assisting many including widowers and those with illnesses.

Monfort was a man of many interests, including gardening and tinkering with various machines, making him the neighborhood's go-to for anything from inflating bike tires to fixing lawn mowers. His love for Dorney Park and roller coaster rides marked his younger days with adventurous spirit.

He leaves behind his daughter, Charlene Mitchell; grandson, Collin Mitchell-Carey; nephews and nieces including Joseph A. (Gloria) Singleton, PhD, Carita Y.(Ronnie) Walker, PhD, Bernadette (Harvey, Rev) Carter, Flecia Gardner, and Kimberly Walker, MD. His sister-in-law, Polly Walker; godson, Andre Reid and family; daughter and son-in-law in Christ, Janice (Sam) Burgess; cousins, Rand Thomas Potillo, and Barbara Golden also survive him, along with a host of friends, nephews, and nieces too numerous to name.

Monfort J. Walker will be remembered as a pillar of strength, reliability, and loving care in his community and church, touching many lives with his generosity and devout service. His legacy of kindness and dedication will be cherished and remembered by all who knew him.

Services will be held on Friday, Oct 25, 2024 at St Paul Baptist Church, 925 E Goepp St, Bethlehem PA 18017. Viewing time: 9-11am. Service to begin at 11:am. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Hellertown, PA.
