It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Monica McKay on November 28, 2024 in
Tecumseh, Kansas.
Monica Brook McKay was born on March 23, 1974 in Hutchinson, Kansas. She was a Director of Physician Clinics at the University of Kansas St. Francis Campus and cherished the rewards of feeling like she was making a difference. She enjoyed gardening, sewing with her treadle powered singer sewing machine, antique shopping, chilling with the 3 dogs, challenging Brian's abilities with remodels and honey-dos, spoiling her nieces and nephews, and Huntleigh, oh how she loved that little girl.
As the first of four children, Monica was a bright and joyful child who grew up in the home her parents purchased in Sterling, KS, where she made lasting memories and friendships.
Monica's love for her sons was unwavering, and she supported and nurtured them as they grew into adulthood. In 2020, Monica had the honor of watching her son Tyler marry Brianna Wollum.
Monica attended Kansas State University for business administration. After a short time in the rat race she felt her purpose was unfulfilled. Her passion for helping others led her to pursue a nursing degree from Graceland University. As a working single parent she was able to complete and graduated in 2007.
She worked for a hospice group in Leavenworth, KS, and as a nurse for an obstetrician in Lawrence, KS, before taking on the role of Director of Primary Care at Stormont Vail Hospital from 2018 to 2023. In August 2023, Monica became the Director of Physician Clinics at The University of Kansas Health System St. Francis Campus, where she continued to make a positive impact until her passing. Monica was admired for her warm personality and inspiring presence, and she formed meaningful connections with everyone she encountered.
She is survived by Her husband of 15 years, Brian McKay, also of
Tecumseh, KS. Her mother, Paula Clements, of Tecumseh, NE; her two sons and daughter-in-law, Ryan Wollum, of
