Monty Thurgood Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 21, 2025.
Monty, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away suddenly at his home in Manila, Utah, on August 17, 2025, at the age of 63.

He was born on May 25, 1962, in Syracuse, Utah, to Ronald and Kaye Thurgood. Monty spent many years helping run the family business, Thurgood Plumbing, alongside his family.

Monty had a deep love for the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He shared that passion with others through his fishing guide tours, teaching not only about Flaming Gorge and the beauty that surrounded it, but also giving a piece of his heart to everyone he met. Monty had a gift for making people feel welcome. To him, no one was ever a stranger-just a friend he hadn't met yet. He was always willing to lend a helping hand, whether it was offering the shirt off his back or a tool from his shed. His unforgettable stories, often retold, will remain treasures to all who knew him.

He made his final home in Manila, where he found joy in the simple things of life and the companionship of his dogs. Above all, Monty's greatest pride and joy were his children and grandchildren. He loved being Dad and Papa and cherished every moment with his family.

Monty will be deeply missed by his children, Jenicca, Ayden (Heather), and Natalia; his grandchildren, Ryan, Yolani, Emma, and Lundyn; as well as his extended family, friends, neighbors, and fellow outdoorsmen. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Leyla-Roux; his parents, Ron and Kaye; his brother, Roger; and many other loved ones.

As Papa would say, "Be sure to give everyone a big hug and a kiss from me. I love you."

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, August 29, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at 3785 Green Farm Way, West Haven, Utah. Family and friends are invited to gather, share memories, and honor Monty's legacy. In true Monty fashion, please come in your cowboy boots, ready to tell a story.
