Calvin Joseph Milton, Jr. was born on June 8, 1950 to the late Mr. Calvin Joseph Milton, Sr. and Mrs. Hattie Mae Milton in Houston, Texas. Calvin grew up in Houston, and attended schools in the Houston Independent School District. He graduated from Yates High School Class of 1968.
After graduation, Calvin left Texas to pursue higher education at Lincoln University in Pennsylvania, one of the nation’s first degree-granting historically black universities. While at Lincoln, Calvin joined the brotherhood of the Sigma Phi Omega fraternity where he built many life-long relationships. In 1972, he graduated cum laude with a BA in English and Journalism.
From there he worked professionally in New Jersey and in 1974, he was offered an opportunity to leap into the fast pace world of foreign exchange and investments as an Assistant Manager for Manufacturers Hanover International in New York. Calvin returned to Houston in 1983 as Assistant Manager in Consumer Relations with Saks Fifth Avenue and eventually decided to leave the private sector.
He obtained a permanent position in 1992 with HISD, teaching ESL/ Language Arts/Science and Math at Roosevelt Elementary. He was passionate about providing a firm foundation for children to excel in life. He was a dependable friend, mentor to many, an example of patience and forgiveness, a man of character and principles and most importantly, he knew how to laugh and enjoy the simple things in life.
Calvin was preceded in death by his mother and father, Hattie Mae and Calvin Milton, Sr., grandparents, Elijah and Viola Price and a sister Linda Diane Milton Broadnax.
Calvin leaves behind a sister, cousin, a host of family, friends, classmates, fraternity brothers and student mentees.

Thanks so much for remembering by friend Calvin since elementary . Especially his Lincoln friends and his fraternity ever grateful. From childhood to even now an unbroken bond. Two days before our 50 year celebration you were gone. Blessedly Virginia and I were together.

To the family of Mr. Milton,
Mr. Milton was my colleague at Burbank MS under the leadership of Dr. Charlotte Parker, who preceded him in death. Our main conversation was our roses! Rarely about instruction or the students! He gave me ideas on how to make my rose bed thrive with beauty and they were and still are! He told me "knockout roses are not real roses!" :) I will forever cherish those conversations! Rest in Peace, Mr. Milton! My condolences to his family, extended family and friends!

To the family of Brother Calvin J. Milton, my deepest heartfelt condolences to you in this time of sorrow. I was truly sadden to learn of Brother Calvin's passing. He was such a dear Lincoln U friend and Sigma Brother to a Zeta Sister. I will miss his laughter, sense of humor, and great words of wisdom. He had the ability to tell it like it is and in such an eloquent manner. Thanks family for sharing this gift with his Lincoln Alumni and the Blue and White Family. May he rest in peace as he has earned his heavenly wings.
