Muir Weissinger Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jul. 9 to Jul. 10, 2009.
WEISSINGER JR., MUIR

Muir Neville Weissinger Jr, of St Augustine died 2nd July 2009. Muir was born in London, England in 1928 and had lived in many countries before settling in St Augustine in 1998.

He was a philosopher and a true renaissance man. He spoke many languages, wrote poetry, was an expert in several periods of history (especially the Second World War), was a self-taught Egyptologist and played tennis mischievously but effectively. He was the published author of two well-received books exploring the ideas behind faith and ideology and was near to completing a third book, commenting on totalitarianism, at the time of his death. He had a great appreciation of good food and wine, and never turned down the opportunity to try the most unusual foods. For all who knew Muir, what we remember best was his great sense of humor and what fun he was to be with. Wherever Muir and Murrell lived they made many friends, especially in St Augustine.

Flowers are gratefully declined but we welcome donations to the First Tee of St Johns County a national youth organization http://www.thefirstteesjc.org or the St Francis House homelessness charity http://www.stfrancisshelter.org.

Muir is survived by his devoted wife Murrell, his sister Pam Crary, his brothers-in-law Richard (Vicki son Marten and step-son Gary David ) and Hank (Marie Diete) Gehman, his nieces Sue, Pam and Cate and nephew William Wharfe and many great nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church, St Augustine on Friday July 10th at 4 pm. The Craig Funeral Home is managing the arrangements.

The world is a far less interesting place without the noble presence of Muir. Cheers my good friend, and thanks for all the laughs.
