Muriel McGilvary Tyler passed away at her home on Monday, July 2nd, 2018 at the age of 58, after a long battle with breast cancer. She was born at Watts hospital and was the "baby" of the family as the youngest daughter of Robert and Barbara McGilvary. After graduating from business college, she went to work at Teleflex where she worked for about 38 years. She was dedicated to her job, loved her work family, and that it gave her the opportunity to travel and explore different cities.
It was obvious to those who knew Muriel that she was passionate about sports and especially loved cheering on her Tar Heels, Panthers and Durham Bulls. She was competitive playing cards on Rook nights and even had a room dedicated to it that she called, "the card room".
Muriel is survived by her "guy" George Walsh, daughters Jessica Tyler (Chad Harris) and Rachel Harper (Marshall), grandchildren Hailey and Logan Harris, Lexi and Landon Harper. She will also be greatly missed by her sister Bobetta Waynick and brother Sebastian McGilvary (Nancy), nieces and nephews, extended family and dear friends. Muriel was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Barbara McGilvary of Durham, North Carolina.
A celebration of Muriel's life will be held at Clements Funeral Home on Saturday, July 7th at 11am in the Gathering Room. Feel free to dress casually to maintain a "party" atmosphere at Muriel's request. UNC, Panthers, and Durham Bulls attire are all welcome!

Muriel was an amazing lady. I have incredibly fond memories of her from my childhood. She was an incredible mother and my thoughts are with my cousins, Jessica and Rachel! Love you all!

Muriel was a wonderful person who always helped others. She was THE person to talk to concerning Surgical Marketing and was always happy and smiling. She was a fantastic person and will be sorely missed.

Muriel was a wonderful human being who was so kind and generous to me when I lived in Raleigh and worked with her at Teleflex in RTP. I will never forget her. My prayers at Mass will be offered for her family and George and her friends. I know without a doubt that heaven has another new angel. RIP, Muriel. I will never again watch the Tar Heels without thinking of you...and with a smile. I've never played Rook since I lived in NC and I never will again - I want to keep that memory intact. Such good times! Thank you for being in my life.
