Margaret Jones Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 22, 2012.
Margaret Maxine (Fleming) Jones, 92, of Wadesville and Evansville, Died May 22, 2012, at Transcendent Healthcare of Owensville. "Maxine" was born and grew up near Parkersburg, south of Olney, Illinois. At the age of 24 she started using her first name "Margaret".

She graduated from Olney High School in 1938, attended Lockyear's Business College and was a student two years at Evansville College (now the University of Evansville).
Margaret married Elvet Charles Jones in 1950. In 1954, and three years thereafter, she was a member of St. Matthew United Church of Christ. She was a member of St. Mark United Church of Christ the rest of her life. For two years during World War II, Margaret was a yeoman (secretary) at the Great Lakes Naval Air Station North of Chicago. After the war, before she married, she was employed at George S. Ingle Oil Company. After raising three sons, she was employed at Lensing Wholesale and then became the bookkeeper at the U.S.I. Library.

At the age of about 82 her memory began to fail and slowly worsened thereafter---but she continued to maintain a good attitude. Her primary physicians were Dr. C.A. Hartley, Jr., Dr. Rick Crawford, Dr. Chester Burkett, and Dr. Quentin Emerson. She was attended to by many excellent nurses.

Her parents, Elmer and Elma Fleming, are deceased, as are her three brothers, Howard, Bill and David.

Margaret is survived by her husband, Elvet Charles Jones, Wadesville, IN and her three sons, Thomas (Madonna), Valrico, Fl., Van Allen, Louisville, KY, and Perry (Jennifer), Evansville. She is also survived by two widowed sisters, Marion, Olney, IL, Dorothy, Newton, IL; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

To have known her was to be aware of what a nice person a human being can become. She will be well remembered and sorely missed.

Funeral services will be 2:00PM, Thursday, May 24, 2012 at Alexander West Chapel, officiated by Rev. Joe Fraccaro with burial at Alexander Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may visit from 11:00AM until service time Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be given to St. Mark United Church of Christ, 7501 Hogue Road, Evansville, IN 47712.

Condolences may be made online at www.AlexanderWestChapel.com.
