Myra Deal Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 25, 2024.
Myra Seets Deal passed away peacefully at home in Belmont, NC after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's Disease. She led a life of love and laughter and relished spending time with her family and friends. She was born in Duck Town, Tennessee on 1/15/1940 to Lear and Loral Griffin and was raised in Whitman, WV as the fourth of seven siblings. She was preceded in death by her sisters Shirley, Sarah, and Sulane, and by her brother Willis. She is survived by her sister (Mary Frances Stokley) and brother (Jim Griffin) who lovingly remember her as a second mother.

Myra was truly a "Coal Miner's Daughter" as her father worked many years for the Island Creek Coal Company. She was an excellent student and a devoted daughter to her mother who suffered from Multiple Sclerosis for many years.

After marrying Charles Wesley (Charlie) Seets of Madison, WV in 1960, Myra moved to Charlotte, NC in 1962 to raise her growing family. She was active in numerous organizations over the years including church, Parent-Teacher Associations (PTA), both Idlewild and East Mecklenburg youth sports organizations and many others. Anything her children were involved with she was "that parent", always the team mom, always the home room mother! She loved dancing, beach vacations, trips to the mountains, and entertaining extended family and friends. No one was a stranger for long in Myra's presence and anyone who came into her path was treated like family. She especially enjoyed being a Grandmother and Great Grandmother. Affectionately known to everyone as "MawMaw", stories about visits to "Camp MawMaw" will be told by her grandchildren for years to come.

Myra was preceded in death by her first husband, Charlie Seets in 1986. She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Joe Deal formerly of Clover, SC. Joe quickly became a part of our close family and she felt truly blessed to have found an amazing love for a second time. Myra is also survived by her daughter Leah Allen (Mark) and sons Chuck (Sherry), Mike (Eileen), and Andy (Kim) as well as two step-children, Brian and Betsy (James). She was a proud grandmother to 9 grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren, and 4 great grandsons.

Myra's family would like to especially thank Earleen, Lisa, Brandy and Elizabeth for the sweet way they cared for her in the last few weeks of her life. And a special thanks to Kamyrn, whose quiet presence was so reassuring for her to the end. Additionally, we would like to thank the staff of Gaston Hospice and our much loved nurse Nicole. She was a true a Godsend.

Myra's immediate family will gather for a celebration of life in Belmont. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to donate to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America (alzfdn.org) or Hospice of Gaston County (https://caromonthealth.org/services/hospice-palliative-care/ways-to-give/donate/)

Myra was a close friend at Logan High school. She worked in the lab at the LOGAN General Hospital and I would go pick her up so we could go and ride around Morrison drive-in. She also made it possible for me to run away and get married. She loaned me her wedding dress but I forgot to take with me. My husband and I were friends with she and Charlie before they moved to Charlotte.
