Atwood Myrtle Denton Atwood, 98, died on Sunday, Dec. 26, 2010, in Francis Marion Manor in Marion. She was born in Grayson County on May 8, 1912 to the late Garnett and Laura Miles Atwood. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Elma Atwood Billings, and two brothers, Paul and James Atwood. She was a member of Troutdale Primitive Baptist Church. Survivors include her nieces, Evelyn Rutherford, Shirley Mitchell, Juanita Mitchell, Shelby Sage, Freda Baldwin, Janice Johnson, and Nadine Barnett; her nephews, William Atwood, B.J. Atwood, James Atwood, Bob Billings, Ronnie Billings, and Ellis Billings. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 29, at Bradley's Funeral Home Chapel in Marion with the Rev. Neville Mozingo officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 10:30 until 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be held privately in the Fairwood Cemetery in Troutdale. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Fairwood Cemetery Fund: c/o Debra Overbay, 1136 Chatham Hill Rd., Marion, VA 24354. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.bradleysfh.com. Bradley's Funeral Home of Marion is in charge of arrangements.
