My sincere sympathy goes out to the family of one of the best doctors who saved my life when I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer at the age of 19 back in 1988. Dr. Charkes will forever hold a special place in my heart

Alison Brookes
December 27, 2022
Dear Nancy and the children of Professor David Charkes, I am so sorry to hear of the passing of lovely, brilliant David earlier this year. I am Alison Brookes, the daughter of the late Professor Murray Brookes of London England and his late wife Esther. Nancy and David came to our son Jack's wedding to Ilana (they met at Columbia in a comparative religion class, too) and I will never forget the lovely contribution that David made at our Daddy's shiva in April 2020. I have been wondering why I hadn't heard from him for so long. He always wrote to me with great pride about his family, especially Alice I think, who lives in VT??? Is that right? He was always inviting us to stay with him and Nancy in VT but it never happened which I regret...our life has always been so full that we just didn't do that and I am so sorry. Having you both at the wedding was incredible. Our parents could not be there....please write to me if you can find the time. I will definitely write back. Much much love and respect and admiration, Alison Rosalie Brookes (in MA)
