Nancy J. DeDionisio Battaglia, age 99, of Erie, went to be with her Lord surrounded by her family on Saturday, November 19, 2011. She was born September 2, 1912 in Erie, a daughter of the late Antimo and Michelina Martino DeDionisio. Nancy will be remembered mostly for her love of her family and the many, many friends that she made at their family owned business, Taggart's Shop for Men, where she worked every day with her son, Jack, and daughter, Carol, until she was 96 years old. She stopped working because Jack retired in 2008. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend and thoroughly enjoyed cooking for them - especially her delicious spaghetti sauce, meatballs and lasagna. In her younger years, she loved to attend dances with her late husband, Ralph, and their numerous friends. Nancy possessed an extremely positive attitude. When asked how she was feeling even to her last days, her response was always "fine and dandy." In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph L. Battaglia; three brothers, Eugene, Joseph and Andrew DeDionisio and two sisters, Catherine Benacci and Victorine Frazzini. She is survived by one daughter, Carol A. Zimm and her husband Dr. Edward of Erie; one son, Jack A. Battaglia and his fiancee Gerri Leonardos of Ft. Myers, Fla.; two sisters, Rose Meister Nims and Virginia Gannoe Albert both of Erie and seven grandchildren, Lisa M. Battaglia/Schwartz and her husband Dr. Steven, Mark Battaglia, Johnathan Battaglia and his wife Heather, Stacy Gromacki and her husband John, Jennifer Beaudet and husband Marc, Dr. Matthew Zimm and his wife Tara and Lindsay Zimm. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren, Claire, Alexa, and Hudson Beaudet and Phoebe and Paige Gromacki and several nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to call at the John R. Orlando Funeral Home Inc., 2122 Raspberry Street, on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. and may attend a service there on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at Saint Joseph RC Church, 174 West 24th Street, at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Carmelite Monastery, 510 East Gore Road, Erie, PA 16509. To send condolences visit www.orlandofuneralhome.com

Dear Family,
My daughter and I had the pleasure of living across the hall from Mrs. Battaglia at Shoreline. She was one of the most graceful, beautiful and dignified ladies I've ever known. She spoke of you often and expressed her love for each of you. The world lost a truly lovely lady, but Heaven is a more beautiful place now. Deepest sympathy to all.

Jack, Carol, & Family:
We were so very saddened at the news of Nancy's passing. Nancy had a unique way of always making you feel special when you came in contact with her. She truly loved her family and loved people in general. Our son G.T. will always remember her because when he was pretty young (he is 23 now) when we would come to shop at Taggart's Nancy would make a big deal about going to a "special" refrigerator to get grape or orange pop waiting for just him should we come by! She was so very warm and embracing and somehow we were all blessed to have her around giving her love to us. She was absolutely beautiful inside and out and we will all miss her so very much. She did show us while she was here how we all should be especially to each other and, because of that, as long as we remember what she exemplified to us all, she will live forever in our hearts.
Our abundant love and heartfelt sympathies are with you all.
With Much Love,
May, Grant, G.T.,& Jean Miller

Aunt Carol and Uncle Jack, my thoughts and prayers go out to you and the family with the passing of Aunt Nancy. She was always there with a smile and a wonderful conversation throughout my entire life. I'll cherish my memories of my beautiful Aunt. In my entire life I have never met a more wondeful group of women than the DiDionisio sisters. They have always shown me what family is all about, as have both of you, and for that I'll be eternally grateful and thankful. All of my love, Brian
