Nancy Cherosnick Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 4, 2024.
Nancy Dudley Cherosnick, age 77, passed away peacefully on March 15th 2024 at her home in Southern Pines, NC. Nancy was born on April 19th, 1946 in Philadelphia, PA daughter to Alice (Quigley) and John Dudley.

Nancy grew up in Morrisville, PA where she attended the Pennsbury schools. She later went on to obtain her degree in Physical Education from Temple University and Utah State University. Nancy moved to Bantam Lake with childhood friend, Beverly Briegel, and began her teaching career in Litchfield, CT where she was also the women's tennis coach.

Nancy married her late husband David J. Cherosnick in Morrisville, PA in July of 1969.

After some time in New York, the couple moved back to CT and purchased Sportsmen's Paradise in Torrington in 1974. For Nancy and David "It was kind of a dream we've always wanted." Together, they grew the business, opening locations in Winsted and Litchfield. During that time if you were wearing tennis shoes or running sneakers, you likely bought them from Nancy. The store became infamous for its Sportsmen's shoe branded t-shirts that customers received with the purchase of a pair of shoes. Those shirts are still being worn all over the country today.

They had their son, Jay, in July of 1979 and moved to Woodridge Lake in Goshen, CT shortly thereafter. Nancy loved her time at the lake. She could often be found fishing or out on her boat with the ladies. She was a wonderful hostess and cook. Nancy hosted many a dinner party and luncheon but might have been most famous for her Christmas Eve parties.

Nancy enjoyed sports throughout her life, an avid tennis player and golfer, she was a member of the Torrington Country Club and Long Leaf Country Club. A huge fan of UCONN women's basketball. She could often be found watching games, if not with, on the phone with, her dearest friend, Helen Loomis.

Nancy had a bit of wanderlust. She loved to travel. Joining friends and groups on adventures all over the United States and Europe. Her favorite though was Kennebunkport, ME. It was rear that she miss a summer visiting the tiny hamlet of Cape Porpoise where she would visit Nunan's Lobster Hut and bring lobster back to her friends and family in CT.

Nancy also enjoyed jaunts into the city to see plays and up to Tanglewood to picnic with friends and listen to the Boston Pops.

In her retirement, Nancy moved to Southern Pines, NC. There, she made wonderful friends and was able to while her days aways playing golf and entertaining. She enjoyed watching the birds and the company of her cat, Taylor. She had a great life in the warmth of North Carolina.

Nancy will be missed by her son Jay and wife Jennifer, her three granddaughters Radley, Levi, and Vail of Litchfield, CT; her sister Susan Fehr (Alan) of PA; her nieces Autumn Stutzman (Jeff) of VA , Jessica Staherski (Ben) of PA; her great nieces Molly, Olivia, and Morgan; great nephew Dylan; and her many friends around the country. Nancy was predeceased by her husband David J. Cherosnick.

A heart felt thank you to Nancy's niece Autumn Stutzman and dear friends Sandra Fischer and Jan Fisher. A special thank you to Paula Landman, Elizabeth Sammons and the many friends who cared for Nancy.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, August 10th at 4pm at Longleaf Country Club in Southern Pines, NC. We invite all friends and family to attend.
