Nancy DOBBELSTEYN Obituary

Published by Ottawa Citizen on Oct. 31, 2017.
DOBBELSTEYN, Nancy Elizabeth Another angel has been given her wings. Nancy was born December 28, 1962, in Fredericton, NB, to Joseph and Mary (Ellis) Dobbelsteyn. She died peacefully with her family by her side on October 28, 2017, at the age of 54 at the Fredericton Hospice House. In addition to her parents, Nancy is survived by her sons, Matthew and Nicholas and their father, Bruce Darling; her siblings, Michael Dobbelsteyn (Jennifer), Brenda McKeown (Tim) and Cheryl Dobbelsteyn (Ed Godden), as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins and her little dog Kandie. Nancy attended the University of New Brunswick for her business degree and worked at a variety of jobs including Prince County Hospital in Summerside, PEI, in Human Resources. Nancy joined the Federal Taxation Center in Summerside working for CRA, Human Resources. In 2010, Nancy moved to Ottawa and continued her work with the federal government, completing 25 years of service. Nancy's expertise was in labor relations and contract negotiations. She was known for trying to rally her team with candy and reading their horoscopes before difficult meetings. Nancy was a volunteer for many groups including Foreign Student Exchange, music festivals and Centrepointe Theater. Nancy had a love for her family, especially her sons, and enjoyed her last summer at French Lake with family and friends visiting. She enjoyed fun adventures and celebrations to include swimming, convertible escapes, boat rides, birthday parties and outdoor movies! She was equally happy to sit in the sun looking at the lake and reading a good book. Nancy loved to travel and had a fondness for going to Cuba with a group of friends. She also loved cruises and warm sunny beaches and was ready to go at any time someone mentioned a trip. Nancy loved music and singing Karaoke with her friends. With a great smile and sense of humor, Nancy was loved by many and friends to all. Nancy's family would like to thank the Oncology Department at the Ottawa General Hospital, and Dr. Sainz and the staff at Fredericton Hospice House for their wonderful care and compassion during Nancy's illness. Visitation will take place at McAdam's Funeral Home, 160 York Street, Fredericton, NB, on Friday November 3, 2017, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday November 4, 2017, at 2 p.m. at St. Dunstan's Catholic Church with Father Bill Brennen as celebrant. A reception will follow in the Monsignor Boyd Family Center. Interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Fredericton Hospice House, the Canadian Cancer Society for Ovarian Cancer Research or to a charity of donor's choice.
