Nancy Fagan Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 26, 2024.
Nancy Sue "Nance" Fagan, nee Filler, passed away on March 10, 2024 in Bel Air, California surrounded by adoring friends, at the age of 85.

She was born on May 7, 1938, in Piqua, Ohio to Ruth Ellen and Joseph Cyril Filler, and described her childhood with them as "idyllic".

Nancy's adventurous spirit led her to leave her small community to study nursing at Miami Memorial Jackson Hospital, before settling in Los Angeles. Here, she met her beloved husband, Ronald Joseph Fagan, a noted film editor. Together, they explored the world as avid travelers and enjoyed a wealth of life-long friends.

Passionate about her nursing career, Nancy dedicated thirty-four years to emergency room nursing at UCLA hospital, retiring as a nurse manager. She believed in treating all people with the kindness and respect she would want for herself, and was gifted with a gentle, yet firm, nature that could ease the most tense medical crises.

Nancy was a bright and elegant woman, who brought joy and caring to all who knew her. She took great pleasure in classical music, was a self-professed foodie, and loved nothing more than engaging in stimulating conversations over a glass of white wine or Irish whiskey. She was a voracious reader, a movie buff and actively engaged in her community through the Bel Air Hills Association.

Nancy is survived by step-daughter, Roma Carlin, nephew, Donal Monahan, and his wife Nicole.

In memory of Nancy Sue Fagan, contributions can be made to Doctors Without Borders.

Among the many interests Nancy and I shared was a love of books. We had a fine evening discussing Murakami's 1Q84, a not-so-easy, long read, over Mezcal Negronis. As always, her insights were unique and thought provoking.

Among many interests Nancy and I shared was a love of books. One night at her home, over Mezcal Negronis, we had a passionate discussion of Murakami's 1Q84, a long and not-so-easy read. We had many outings to Ocean Prime, where we toasted Jonathan Mitchell, Nancy's beloved neighbor, and the friend who introduced us. She was always there to share joys and sorrows, ever the compassionate listener with ample wisdom to spare. I miss her terribly already.
