Woodlands - Our delightfully funny mother and grandmother Nancy Jepson Guthrie passed away on September 2, 2025.
Born March 30, 1937, in Sioux City, Iowa, Nancy graduated from the University of Iowa before marrying fellow Iowan Richard E. Guthrie. Early mothering and the Junior League gave way to one of the key adventures of her life when employment took their young family to Sydney, Australia, for several years. She played super mom each year during the family's annual leave corralling her four daughters (all under the age of 10) as they traveled exploring the world.
While raising her family in Des Moines, Iowa, Nancy enjoyed a long career in business administration which eventually took her to Chicago as the national meetings director for The Association of Legal Administrators. Excelling at and relishing organization, financial planning and detail management, she received numerous accolades for her outstanding event organization skills. Frugal and funny, Nancy had many lifelong friends and traveling companions who enriched her life immensely, most especially Pat Stouffer and Fran Lindstrom still of Des Moines.
In 2001 she became a Midwestern transplant to The Woodlands, Texas, after retirement to be close to her Houston grandsons. While reinventing herself in The Woodlands, Nancy became a fantastic needlepoint artist leaving a trail of artwork behind her for family and friends. She found a second group of smart, playful friends through her years as a competitive bridge player, volunteer with Habitat For Humanity and Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Medical Center, and through her Windsor Hills philosophy club.
She is lovingly remembered and survived by daughters Julie Guthrie, Susan Guthrie Dunn, Sarah Guthrie, Anne Guthrie; son-in-law Christopher Dunn; and grandchildren Samuel Dunn, Ian Dunn, Rheal Rad and Rush Radwany. All of whom share her sense of humor, appreciation for a bargain and competitive game spirit.
Nancy was a force of nature, fiercely loyal, always right, and determined beyond belief. We are grateful for her presence and love, and in celebration of her full life, friends will be welcomed on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at Bradshaw-Carter Funeral Home, 1734 W. Alabama Street,
Houston, Texas 77098, from 12 p.m. - 3 p.m. A remembrance will begin at 2 p.m.
